I: Introduction

Welcome to Social Media Marketing Strategy. In this lesson, we will be talking about SEO and social media marketing strategy. Our goal today is to begin to lay the foundation of knowledge that we will build upon in future lessons. We will also answer questions such as what is SEO and how does it relate to social media marketing and how do we get the most out of both of these powerful online marketing tools? First of all, what is SEO? Search Engine Optimization or SEO is the process by which you optimize your website for search engines so that they can find it and rank it highly in search engine results pages or SERPs. Next, how does it relate to social media marketing? The answer to this question is simple. Social media marketing is simply a subset of SEO. It is one way that you can optimize your site for search engines that will help increase the ranking of your site.

II: Body

Now that we know what SEO is and how it relates to social media marketing, let's look at some ways that you can integrate these two powerful online marketing tools to increase your rankings. One way to do this is to make sure that your website has links coming into it from other websites. These links tell search engines that your site is important and popular. The more links coming into your site, the higher you will rank in search engines, because search engines like Google like to give their highest rankings to sites that are important or popular. So if you can convince someone with a lot of followers on Twitter or Facebook or another Social Media Platform to link to your site; this would be considered an inbound link. When someone links to your site using their name as anchor text, it tells search engines that your site is important and worth checking out because someone with a high number of followers thinks so. This is especially true if the person with a high number of followers is well known in his or her industry. An example would be if Bill Gates linked to your site using his name as anchor text for Google or Bing or Yahoo or any other search engine. Search engines would not only rank your site highly because it has been linked to by someone famous, but they would also show it on sites where searches are being done for Bill Gates' name, which could result in increased traffic for your site.
