I: Introduction

A: Affiliate Marketing is a good way to make money online. Some affiliate networks are very strict about their terms and conditions on what you can do with the traffic you send to them. If I sent traffic to an affiliate network that was low quality, my account would be canceled. In the end, customers would pay for the product, but I would not get paid from the affiliate network.

II: Body

A: Case study of driving poor quality traffic and having the affiliate not work.

I bought a large banner ad for a site called “Water Weight Loss”. The banner was a hot pink background with a picture of a beautiful girl holding a glass of water. The text read “Lose 10 lbs in 24 Hours – Guaranteed!”

My hope was that people who saw the ad would feel compelled to click on the link to see how they could lose 10 lbs in 24 hours. They would then be brought to a sales page for a diet pill called “Water Weight Loss”.

The ad ran for three days and I sent roughly 1,500 visitors to the sales page. The sales page was well done and was very convincing. The only thing missing was a phone number for people who were interested in buying a trial bottle of Water Weight Loss.

The sales page was very effective at getting people to buy bottles of Water Weight Loss. Unfortunately, I had no way to know if those sales were due to my banner ad or if they were just normal sales that would have happened anyway.

The one thing that was certain is that I did not get paid for any of those sales. When I reached out to the affiliate network to find out why I didn’t get paid, they said that I had violated their terms and conditions by sending spammy traffic to their website. Because of the spammy nature of the traffic, I lost all of my commissions and my account was canceled.
