Discord Text Formatting: Colors, Bold, Italic, Strikethrough

Discord is a well-renowned American VoIP, instant messaging and digital distribution platform designed for creating communities. The app has risen in popularity in recent times especially within gaming communities as well as during lockdown.

While you can send emojis, images and gifs in Discord Chat, there is no outright method to visible formatting tools in the app. However, you can use a simplified version of Markdown for formatting.

Here is how you can format your text in Discord:

Bold: To make your text bold, you have to put the text in double asterisks like this: **bold text**

Press enter and the text will be bold.

Italics: To put your text in italics, you can put the text between single asterisks, like this: *italic text*

Press enter and the text will be in itallics.

Bold Italics: To put your text in bold italics, you can put the text between triple asterisks, like this: ***bold italic text***

Press enter and the text will be in bold italics.

Underline and strikethrough: To underline your text, you can put the text between double underscores, like this: __underline text__

To strikethrough your text, you can put the text between double Tilde, like this: ~~strikethrough text~~

Press enter and the text will be underlined and strikethrough.

Discord isn't the only app to use Markdown: users on Reddit can use it to format comments.
