Zoom is a platform that allows people to integrate Squarespace into their Zoom meetings. Zoom has been around since 2005 and was acquired by Cisco in 2017. It has over two million users and provides features such as conference calls, video calls, screen sharing, and chat. The program can be used for business meetings, educational purposes, and private chats.
Squarespace is a website-building platform that allows users to create websites quickly and easily without having to hire a professional designer or programmer (“About Squarespace”. This platform also offers services outside of the website building area such as music streaming, online storage, and email/marketing software (“Squarespace?”. Since its founding in 2003, Squarespace has expanded to over 600 employees and had 17 million unique visitors in 2018 (“Meet the Team”.
In May 2018, Squarespace announced a new partnership with Zoom. Through this partnership, users will be able to host their meetings on Squarespace websites using Zoom. This integration will allow for easier cplaboration with the other participants of the meeting. For example, if someone wanted to share a video from their iPad, they would have to send it through an email attachment or upload it to YouTube. If their meeting was hosted on a Squarespace site, they could simply add the video to the page and all of their meeting participants could see it. (“Squarespace + Zoom”. In addition to this, the integration of these two platforms allows for easier communication amongst participants (“Squarespace + Zoom”. A participant can ask a question via a chat function on the website or they can call out the speaker by pressing “#” on their phone. The presenter will hear a beeping sound and will know that someone is trying to get his or her attention (“Squarespace + Zoom”.
There are several benefits to having these two services integrated together. First of all, it makes hosting meetings much easier for the person who is hosting. If the meeting is hosted on a Squarespace site, one person can do all of the work instead of paying for a separate website builder and video meeting provider (“Squarespace + Zoom”. Not only does this save money for the person hosting the meeting, but it also saves time for everyone else because they don’t have to go through extra steps to view videos or participate in the meeting. Secondly, this integration allows for easier communication between meeting participants. When someone asks a question or wants to speak during the meeting, they can press “#” on their phone and whoever is speaking will hear a beeping sound letting them know that someone wants their attention (“Squarespace + Zoom”. This way, people who want to communicate don’t have to interrupt whoever is speaking or try to get their attention in any other way. Finally, integrating Zoom and Squarespace helps with security. If people are hosting the meeting on a Squarespace site, they don’t have to worry about customizing the settings so that only invited participants can join the meeting; it is automatically set up that way (“Squarespace + Zoom”. Just like with video calling and screen sharing, there are some security issues with web conferencing that can be mitigated by using this combination of services. For example, participants of the meeting aren’t able to record what other participants are saying without their permission. Also, if someone tries to use another person’s name or account to access the meeting, they won’t be able to because one person needs an invitation code in order to access the meeting (“Squarespace + Zoom”.
By combining Squarespace and Zoom, participants of a meeting can benefit from multiple features in one place. This integration improves communication between participants and streamlines the process of hosting a meeting. These two platforms should continue working together to provide better features and improve existing ones.
