Since the release of the online video provider Zoom in 2008, it has been growing and expanding to encompass a plethora of different services and features. As time went on and the creators and designers discovered and learned more and more about their users and what they needed, more and more features were added and removed to better meet the needs of the users. Another company that started in 2008 was monday.com. It too had a vision for creating a comprehensive project management platform, but one that would go beyond simple task management and scheduling and would also include things like file storage and file sharing, analytics, and cplaboration.
In 2017, the two companies partnered to integrate Zoom video conferencing into monday.com’s interface. This integration is not only beneficial for both parties but is also beneficial for businesses and organizations using monday.com and Zoom.
Zoom’s integration into monday.com is an added feature that was not originally available when monday.com launched in 2008 (https://www.zoom.us/company/timeline/. The integration is very easy to use; it is possible to start a video call from within monday.com itself by selecting “Video Meeting” in the top menu or hovering over a message or document that requires a meeting or discussion, then selecting “Start a Video Call” in the popup that appears. This is very useful since it allows for easier organization of meetings and discussions, however, it does have downsides. One problem is that there is no way to schedule a meeting with someone who is not on monday.com. In order to schedule a meeting with someone who is not currently using monday.com, it is necessary to send them an invite through Zoom which can result in confusion when they receive an invite from a different provider than the one they are used to using. Another downside of the integration is that since monday.com does not have a mobile app, there is nowhere for end users to access Zoom from their mobile devices without going through the web browser version which is not very streamlined or optimized for mobile usage. This creates a problem because end users need access to Zoom from any device whether they are at their desk or on the go, so if they try to access Zoom from their mobile device through monday.com, they often find it difficult to do this.
The benefits of integrating Zoom with monday.com far outweigh the negatives associated with it. For example, it is now possible for anyone using monday.com to schedule video calls with anybody else using Zoom, regardless of what platform they are using. This means that it is now possible to schedule meetings with someone who is not currently using monday.com by inviting them through Zoom to join your meeting or discussion, all without leaving monday.com. Another benefit of integrating Zoom with monday.com is that it allows for faster access to Zoom even when traveling or on-the-go. Since there is now an icon for accessing Zoom directly on the monday.com desktop application (which was never available before), it is easier than ever for end users who are traveling to connect with people back at headquarters or other branches or locations around the globe without having to find another way to access Zoom outside of their normal work environment.
Integration of Zoom into monday.com has many benefits for both companies as well as their customers, but there are still some downsides to this integration that need to be addressed before full adoption of this feature by all users occurs. With these issues noted, I believe that this integration will make great strides towards bringing together these two companies under one roof while also creating a user friendly experience for end users who may have previously struggled to find ways to access Zoom outside of their normal work environment.
