Zoom is a video conferencing software and cloud service developed by Cisco. It is used for audio, video, web conferencing, online meetings and remote training. The software is primarily used on computers and mobile devices. Zoom has been increasingly used in education, government, healthcare, and business sectors. It offers infrastructure-as-a-service to IT professionals and developers for developing applications that use their API. In 2015, Cisco acquired WebEx Communications which was the previous owner of the Zoom product line for $US 430 million.
Bitly is a URL shortening service developed in 2008 by Peter Stern and Joe Stump. The domain bitly.com was registered in November 2007. It was initially marketed as a way to easily share long URLs on Twitter. It was distributed through marketing campaigns with companies such as Microsoft and Intel. In April 2011, bitly raised $US 2.6 million from Redpoint Ventures and Baseline Ventures. In March 2013, bitly raised $US 11 million from Bessemer Venture Partners, First Round Capital, IA Ventures and Redpoint Ventures.
The integration of Zoom and Bitly can be used for online training by teachers, administrators, and students. Teachers can use Zoom to conduct virtual lessons while students from all over the world can join the lessons using Bitly links in order to prevent being distracted by other things when they are supposed to be focusing on the lesson. This will also save time for students since they do not need to download and install Zoom software in order to participate in the lessons.
Bitly will also help teachers who need to evaluate how the learners received the lessons as it saves time for them as well. They no longer need to check each student’s laptop/desktop for the activity log of the lesson. They can just check Bitly link logs in order to evaluate how each learner reacted or received the lesson based on their comments about it.
The benefits of integrating Zoom and Bitly include better accessibility to the learning materials and ease of use for both teachers and students. Students no longer need to struggle with downloading and installing software at home or during schop lessons just to be able to receive the lesson. Teachers can also save more time for them to focus on planning for the next lesson or preparing other schop tasks instead of checking each student’s laptop/desktop activity log manually in order to know if they understood the lesson or not.
