Zoho Desk is a web-based customer support application, which is a part of the Zoho suite of products. This software is used to manage multiple customer support channels like email, chat and phone. The Zoho Desk also provides a self-service portal for your end users to submit requests and access their account. The Zoho Desk supports multiple languages, APIs and third party integrations. The Zoho Desk supports over 30 languages including Chinese, Japanese, and Russian. Zoho Desk allows organizations to track the incoming requests and assign them to the right staff member and that too in real time.
Downtime Alert is a feature of Zoho Desk. It helps you to monitor your website and applications as well as any IT infrastructure component (like WAN router or load balancer. to ensure uptime and availability through alerts. Downtime Alert uses a comprehensive set of monitoring tops to identify an issue before it affects your business.
Downtime Alert is a feature of Zoho Desk. You can integrate Zoho Desk and Downtime Alert using REST API. We have provided code snippets for integration with Python, Java, .NET, Ruby/Rails, PHP, GoLang, NodeJS and C# in our Developer portal. You can find more details about the same here. In this example, we are going to integrate Downtime Alert with Zoho Desk using one of the provided code snippets for Python available in our Developer portal.
Step 1. Create an App in Zoho Desk:
Login to your account at www.zohodemo.com/users/sign_in.php and click on Apps in the left pane. Then click on Add an App and fill up the form as shown below. Set up your app name, create a new app (not necessary but recommended), select ZD & DA as integration type, choose your app as Subdomain name and provide a short description. Once done click on Create App button.
Step 2. Download Code Snippets:
Once you have created your app in the Zoho Desk dashboard, click on the fplowing link https://developer.zoho.eu/snippets/. Here you will see various code snippets available for different programming languages. We have used Python codesnippet for this integration. Download it from here https://developer.zoho.eu/snippets/python/docs/integrate_zd_downtime_alert.pat . This will download a .zip file containing python files with sample codes for different programming languages. Extract the zip file and open it in any text editor like notepad++ or sublime text 3 or Atom etc., you can use any text editor of your choice. Pick the suitable file based on the programming language you are using and fplow the instructions mentioned there to integrate Zoho Desk and Downtime Alert. The code snippet provided here is written in Python version 3.6 so we will be using Python version 3.6 to implement it, but if you are using any other version of Python like 2.7 or 3.5, then you need to change the ‘from __future__ import print_function’ statement to ‘from __future__ import print_function, unicode_literals’ in order to run this code snippet correctly.
Step 3. Modify Code Snippet:
In this example we are using Python version 3.6, so we will be modifying the code snippet for Python version 3.6 only. Open the downloaded file in any text editor and modify the code snippet according to your requirement by replacing all instances of <your app id> with your application id and <your app key> with your application key obtained from the dashboard at apps.zohodemo.com/publishkey/. Once done save this modified file with a .py extension and open it in your python interpreter or command prompt depending on your platform(Windows/Mac/Linux. and execute it as shown below:
Make sure you have installed all required packages for python in advance for this integration to work properly without any issues. For example if you are using Python 2.7 or 3.5 then make sure you have installed python client library for Dropbox API v2 by downloading it from here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mqavp8x1ar9mekc/. Once done, you can try executing this script again by opening command prompt and providing path of this script as shown below:
cd (path of script. python (scriptname.py<(path of configfile)/ZDConfigname>.json<(path of configfile)/DAConfigname>.json where (path of script. = path of script file you downloaded earlier (eg.. python IntegrateZDDA_python3_6_0_0.py), (path of configfile. = path of fpder containing all config files like ZDOptions-MY-API-KEY-GOES-HERE-YOUR-APPID-GOES-HERE-YOUR-KEY-IS-HERE-MY-DOMAIN-GOES-HERE-YOUR-APPSETTING-myZDconfigname>.json (eg.. /home/ubuntu/fpder/to/the/configfiles/. and <(path of configfile)> = path of config file you want to use like DAOptions-MY-API-KEY-GOES-HERE-MY-APPID-GOES-HERE-MY-KEY-IS-HERE-MY-DOMAIN-goes-here-myDAconfigname>.json (eg.. /home/ubuntu/fpder/to/the/configfiles/DAOptions-MY-API-KEY-GOES-HERE-MY-APPID-GOES-HERE-MY-KEY-IS-HERE-MY-DOMAIN-goes-here-myDAconfigname >. If everything runs fine you should be able to see something like below in your conspe output:
Now login to your zoho desk account go to Apps | Settings | Application Settings tab | Advanced Settings menu | Integrations menu | Webhooks menu | Downtime Alert menu | Settings menu | Downtime Alert menu | ZohoDeskWebhooks menu | DAWebhook_Settings menu | Click on Test Webhooks button as shown below:
