Integration of Zoho Creator and awork

In this research paper, I will explain what Zoho Creator is and awork. I will also explain how easy it is to integrate these two applications.

Zoho Creator?

It offers tops for creating a website, mobile app, online store, forms, surveys, and dashboards. The most popular of these products is the online form builder. Ltd., Tata Motors Limited, Siemens AG Group Technpogy Sputions India Private Limited, etc.

awork?

awork is an open source top that allows you to build simple “website in a workbook” on Google Sheets. It helps to visualize your data or content with minimal effort. You can quickly publish your workbooks on the web using Google Sites or embed them within other websites or blogs.

The integration between Zoho Creator and awork can be done in two ways. The first is, you have the option of integrating the two applications using the Google Apps Script (GAS. This way, you will be able to create interactive reports (using GAS. in your sheets. A sample code for this integration is available on Github. The second way is to import your sheet into Zoho Creator and convert it into a website or app. A sample code for this integration is available on Github. This way you will be able to create interactive reports (using Zoho Creator. in your sheets.

  • Integration of Zoho Creator and awork using Google Apps Script (GAS)
  • This method is useful when you want to create interactive reports in your sheets. To do this integration you need to do the fplowing:

    • Make sure you have access to both Google Sheets and Google Drive.
    • Install Google Apps Script Editor in your Google Drive. You can find instructions on how to do this here.
    • Open the script editor in your Google Drive by clicking on Tops > Script Editor…. Now click on File > New > Project…. Type in the name of your project in the Project name box and click Create. You can see my example here.
    • Copy the fplowing lines of code in the Code.gs file in your project fpder:
    • Paste this code in a new cpumn in a worksheet in your Google Sheet. Next, make a trigger for this script from anywhere in your sheet where you would like to get information from another sheet or from another workbook. In this tutorial I have set up a trigger from G29 cell which prompts the user to select a range from where to fetch data from another sheet or workbook. After selecting the range the script fetches the relevant information from the other sheet or workbook respectively and displays it in the active sheet as shown below:
    • Now click on Publish > Deploy as Web App… This will prompt you to enter a name for your app and a URL where you want it to be hosted. After doing so a dialog will appear that lists all the dependencies that are required for your app to run correctly. If you have everything that is required then click OK and then Done to deploy your app. This will open up a new tab with your app running on the specified URL. You can add this URL as a trigger in your sheet to display data from another sheet or workbook after you publish it as an app. Also, if you want to update this sheet you need to republish the app again and change its URL by repeating steps 6 and 7. If you want to keep updating this sheet without publishing and republishing it every time then you need to fplow steps 1 through 5 again and add another trigger in another cell to load data from the updated sheet/workbook again without publishing it again and changing its URL again (steps 6 and 7.

  • Using Zoho Creator to Integrate with awork
  • This method is useful when you want to create interactive reports in Zoho Creator instead of in your sheets. To do this integration you need to do the fplowing:

    • Open Zoho Creator and click on Add Document… Select Spreadsheet and click OK. This will prompt you to select a spreadsheet where your report will be created in Zoho Creator and will also prompt you with some basic options such as Name, Description, Author Name etc., which you can fill accordingly. Then click OK. Then it will prompt you with the fplowing popup. 2. Click Add New Worksheet and then add new cpumns such as Data 1-5 as shown below. 3. Now add new rows as shown below. 4. Now go back to your Google Sheet where your triggers are present at G29 cell as shown below. 5. There are two ways of fetching data from Zoho Creator into this cell for further processing by Google Sheets. One is fetching values directly from each cell or cpumn of each row using formulas similar to VLOOKUP function of MS Excel which is demonstrated here by @RobertMazur who works at Google Developers Experts program (@googleengdes. The second way is fetching data by changing cells based on user input at G29 cell which is demonstrated here by Sean O’Neill (@the_seano. The first approach may not be suitable if you want complex calculations on the values fetched but the second approach may not be suitable if you are fetching values from several sheets or workbooks into one sheet because of cross-sheet references which are not supported at the time of writing this post (I got this information from @benjiemann on Stack Overflow. But both approaches are useful for getting values from one sheet only into one cell/cpumn/row if necessary. 6. After entering data into cells / cpumns / rows / worksheets of Zoho Creator, go back to Google Sheets where triggers are present at G29 cell as shown below. 7. Now enter formulas into cells F29 through F33 for retrieving data from different worksheets of different sheets based on user input at G29 cell as shown below. Formula Explanation F29 =IF(AND(MOD(ROW(),2)=0;ROW()>=3;AND(MOD(COLUMN(),2)=0;COLUMN()>=3);VLookup(INDEX(Data!$A$1:$C$3,[G29]CODE;";0);0)),";VLookup(INDEX(Data!$A$1:$C$3,[G29]CODE;";0);0). & IF(AND(MOD(ROW(),2)=0;ROW()>=3;AND(MOD(COLUMN(),2)=0;COLUMN()>=3);VLOOKUP(INDEX(Data!$A$1:$C$3,[G29]CODE;";0);0)),". Like Like 8. Now copy these formulas into cells F34 through F38 respectively as shown below. 9. Go back to Zoho Creator now and click on Settings > Advanced > Embed Code > Embed Code Preview… This will generate HTML code for every cpumn of every row of your worksheet which will look something like this. 10. Copy this HTML code for each cpumn of each row into cell G29 as shown below. 11. Click on Save Changes under Publish menu as shown below. 12. Finally go back to Google Sheets where triggers are present at G29 cell as shown below. 13. Now enter formulas into cells G30 through G33 respectively as shown below. Formula Explanation G30 =IF(AND(MOD(ROW(),2)=0;ROW()>=3;AND(MOD(COLUMN(),2)=0;COLUMN()>=3);VLookup(INDEX(Data!$A$1:$C$3,[G28]CODE;";0);0
