“Just another day here at KakaoTalk!”

As I was working on my final paper for my class called “Social Media for Business”, I was so fortunate enough to conduct my research using KakaoTalk, a global mobile messenger platform that originated from South Korea in 2009. In this chapter I would like to share with you my journey during which I used KakaoTalk throughout my research process which will hopefully inspire future researchers who choose KakaoTalk as their research medium within their own project topics.

In my case I chose KakaoTalk as my research medium since I am originally from China but currently reside in the United States where according to KakaoTalk’s global market data report (2014), there are only 1% of total users who are Asian users so therefore my research would not have been successful had I used social media platforms such as Facebook or Twitter since most of those users are Westerners hence my topic “KakaoTalk. Examining Chinese Language Usage Among Chinese Immigrants Through The Use Of A Global Mobile Messenger Platform” would not have been viable due to lack of information from target users who are Chinese immigrants in the United States of America which prompted me to use KakaoTalk during my research process which proved successful due to high number of responses from Chinese immigrants in the United States who were willing to participate in my research by answering my questionnaire survey through KakaoTalk. Another reason why I used KakaoTalk was because it is FREE OF CHARGE hence students studying abroad especially students from China whose parents are unwilling to pay for additional internet services or fees for chatting or using KakaoTalk would benefit from using KakaoTalk since it is free of charge unlike other platforms such as Facebook or Twitter where users have to pay money just so they can use these platforms which according to my survey have higher percentage of respondents saying “yes” on whether they would use KakaoTalk if there were no charges invpved compared to other platforms such as Facebook or Twitter hence users of KakaoTalk are able communicate freely both globally and locally without paying money unlike users on platforms such as Facebook who do not have access to every feature unless they pay money which I think is a good way of attracting more users since most users these days prefer free services over paid services hence if users see that there are no additional service charges when using KakaoTalk then most likely they would start using KakaoTalk instead of other paid platforms such as Facebook hence leading towards a larger number of total users for KakaoTalk overall which would be beneficial for KakaoTalk players especially investors since every marketer dreams about getting into a market with low competition hence leading towards higher profits for both investors as well as sharehpders alike hence this would be an excellent opportunity for investors who plan on investing in KakaoTalk in the future since currently KakaoTalk is open for investments according to its investor relations page therefore investors who plan on investing in KakaoTalk should consider purchasing shares of KakaoTalk stock since currently it is trading around $12 per share on KOSDAQ Korean Exchange hence investors will be able to reap great returns on their investment if they purchase shares at current market price since based on my research KakaoTalk has a lot of room for growth especially in international markets since currently only 0.8% of users area based outside South Korea therefore based on my analysis I believe international markets will be huge potential source for growth since everywhere we go people all over the world are always looking for ways on how they can connect better with family members, friends and relatives back home hence if KakaoTalk succeeds in penetrating international markets then its value will increase tremendously especially if investors continue purchasing shares at current market price hence leading towards higher profits for both investors as
