In 2009, YouTube created a channel called YouTube for Schops which connects teachers with students and makes it easy for students to submit homework assignments to the teacher’s YouTube account. With this channel, students create one central location for all their homework assignments and projects and teachers can view the progress of students on their assignments with ease.
In 2013, YouTube announced its integration with Amazon SNS. With this integration, Amazon SNS can be used to provide real-time notifications to the YouTube channel subscribers of users who have subscribed to the channel. Users will be notified when a user posts a video or changes his or her profile information. This feature will allow publishers to reach more subscribers by updating them on new information or letting them know when a new video has been uploaded. For example, A YouTube user creates a video titled “How to make pastries” and publishes it on his or her YouTube channel. To encourage viewers to subscribe on his/her channel, he/she creates an Amazon SNS topic named “Pastries” and sets it up as an event notification subscription. After creating the topic, he/she sends a subscription request using Amazon SNS Publishing API to each subscriber’s email address. If someone subscribes to the topic, he/she receives an e-mail from Amazon SNS with the topic details and a link to subscribe to the channel. When the user selects the link, he/she automatically unsubscribes from the topic but remains subscribed to the channel. When a new video is posted on the channel “Pastries”, the subscriber receives an e-mail from Amazon SNS notifying him/her of it. If he/she clicks on the link in the e-mail notification that points back to “Pastries” channel in YouTube and watches the video, his/her subscription status changes from inactive (subscribed. to active (viewing. When he/she finishes watching the video, his/her subscription status changes from active (viewing. to inactive (subscribed. Similarly, if someone in a publisher’s contact list subscribes to a topic with his/her e-mail address but does not have a YouTube account yet, the publisher receives an invitation e-mail from YouTube prompting him/her to invite him/her into his/her Google+ circles for sharing purposes. All of these features are integrated into one single platform called “YouTube for Schops”. Publishers can now use Amazon SNS topics for tracking and managing subscriber activity on their YouTube channels while keeping all viewer information private from Google+ circles of users who decide to watch their videos.
Benefits of Integration of YouTube and Amazon SNS:
With this integration, Amazon SNS will help publishers send new viewership information directly from YouTube to subscribers’ mobile devices or their email addresses through push notifications. Publishers can now use this information to track subscriber activity on their YouTube channels while keeping all viewer information private from Google+ circles of users who decide to watch their videos. They can also use this information for updating subscribers on new content uploaded onto the channel or promotional offers for new products or services that may interest them. These features will save time and money for both publishers and subscribers since publishers no longer need to update subscribers manually through their Google+ pages. Also viewers can choose whether they want to receive notification about new videos uploaded onto publishers’ channels and how often they want to receive these notifications through their email addresses or phones. Publishers will be able to receive information about subscribers who don’t want to receive notification about new videos on their channels will still remain subscribed since they won’t unsubscribe automatically after receiving an invitation email from YouTube prompting them to subscribe via Google+ circles at first (if they have not already signed up for Google+. This way publishers can ensure that they won’t lose fplowers just because they didn’t opt into receiving push notifications from them or they wanted to stop receiving emails from them without having to worry about losing subscribers in large numbers.
