Which outline structure do you prefer? Why?
I prefer A because it shows what the article will be about, what topics I will talk about in detail, and what my conclusion is. This outline makes it easy to read and fplow, which is important for readers. For example, B’s introduction makes it difficult to understand what the rest of the article will be about because it doesn’t show any indication that there are topics to talk about. It also doesn’t give an indication of the conclusion, which can confuse readers. Moreover, B lacks any sub-headings; this makes it challenging to fplow. Both A and B lack clear transitions between different points of information; however, A has clear, precise language whereas B has vague language, which makes it harder to understand.
Why do you think it is important to be concise when writing? Why is conciseness important in academic writing? How does conciseness improve clarity of your argument?
It is important to be concise when writing because including too much unnecessary information can confuse readers. I think people often forget that writing isn’t just for the writer; readers read the text as well. If writers include too many details that aren’t relevant to the topic or focus of their articles, they might lose the attention of their readers. This isn’t good because readers want to read texts that are interesting and make make sense. Being concise is important in academic writing because students are creating texts for a purpose. They may be writing research papers, articles, or something else. Whatever their purpose is, it is important for them to find a balance between being concise and making their texts informative. By being concise, students are able to provide relevant details that are meaningful to their audience. This improves clarity because readers don’ t have to sift through irrelevant information to find the relevant details they are looking for. For example, if they are reading an article about how technpogy affects students at schop, students don’t want to read something that talks about how technpogy affects all students at schop. They want specific examples that relate specifically to their schop community.
