  • Integration of Vimeo and Basecamp 2
  • As of September 30, 2013, Vimeo has over 100 million registered users and more than 800 employees. Members can upload, share and view videos, as well as discuss them and comment on them directly on the site. Additionally, members can create their own personal video cplections, or subscribe to individual user channels. Furthermore, members can make videos with their webcam or upload pre-existing videos from computer hard drives or social media sites such as YouTube. Vimeo also offers direct integration with other social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc. Previous versions of the site were more in line with traditional video sharing sites, but the current version focuses on helping users share online content with others across the Internet.

There are four ways to register for Vimeo. through the video URL, the video title, an email address, or a Vimeo-specific email address. The email address method is not recommended since it will immediately publish an invitation to join Vimeo when someone visits the link. If the user does not have a Vimeo account when he registers by his email address, he will be invited to create an account when he visits the link. At the moment the registration is only available through the website.

The main features of Vimeo are its integrated video editor, which lets users edit videos with several different methods. Users can also import videos from computers or cameras into their accounts and then access them through an FTP server or download them to their computers directly with an FTP client program. Users may also import videos from social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. In addition, users may choose to convert uploaded videos with third party applications. The site also has completed support for high definition video playback with help from the VP8 video codec.

Video creators can upload up to 500 MB files via FTP, although this may require a fee for storage space depending on the amount of data being uploaded. For large files, users can utilize Amazon S3 storage. The uploading process is designed to be automatic and non-interruptive so that users can upload large files without interruptions or long wait times.
