  • Vend is a software company that makes web-based point-of-sale (POS. software. Vend is used by small business owners to manage their inventory, sales, and customers. The name “Vend” is based on the word “vendor” referring to the businesses that use it.
  • Vend was founded in 2009 by Chris Spanos, the founder of Zen Planner. Vend was created as a company that would provide an intuitive and efficient spution for online retail businesses. This is how Vend had come into existence.

  • In 2011, Vend announced that the company would be shifting its focus from being POS software to a broader eCommerce platform. Vend increased its product line from three products to 114 products with 18 individual extensions. By 2012, Vend had transitioned 90% of its customers over to the new platform which included all of the original features of the POS system.
  • In 2013, Vend began offering a free option for small businesses and started offering additional free services. Vend also launched a “VendSpot” which is a free advertising service for its users that provides access to online sellers such as eBay, Amazon or Etsy. VendSpot has been described as the “Craigslist for online shopping” by Forbes magazine.
  • In 2014, the company partnered with Shopify to integrate its software with Shopify's ecommerce platform.
