MongoDB is a NoSQL database that stores data in the form of documents. MongoDB is designed to be a scalable, high-performance database. MongoDB’s document model allows developers to store and work with documents in a schema-free manner. MongoDB’s rich indexing capabilities allow developers to quickly query documents based on any field. This makes it easy to integrate with third-party APIs and search engines as well. MongoDB supports a REST API that allows developers to manage their databases via HTTP requests while the framework itself does not need to know about the schema of the data being stored. This feature allows developers to work with data without worrying about the underlying structure.
The integration between MongoDB and Vend is seamless and requires minimal effort from the developer’s side. Vend integrates seamlessly with MongoDB using an adapter class called MongoDBConnector. Each order or invoice item has a unique identifier (Item_Id. that starts with ‘mongo_’ fplowed by the complete item ID of the original Vend item. For example. ‘mongo_123456789’. This unique identifier is stored in the Item_Id field of the Order and Invoice tables in Vend. When the item is added to the shopping cart, the item will be updated in the Order table with the unique identifier ‘mongo_123456789’ (see figure 1. When working with a live MongoDB instance, this identifier will be empty when retrieving existing items from the database. The reason for this is that this identifier is added when an item is added to a cart or when an Order or Invoice is created.

When integrating with a MongoDB database, developers are no longer required to deal with complex data structures in their code. Instead, they can use queries in their code to retrieve objects from the database regardless of how they are stored in the database. Developers are also able to create indexes on various fields and use these indexes in their queries. This allows developers to retrieve information quickly while simultaneously retrieving information from different tables (e.g., Order and Invoice.
