Writing an outline for an article is all about planning. One of the best ways to plan your article is to create an outline, and then write the article. When you create an outline, you are basically creating a roadmap that will guide you through the process of writing the article. An outline is especially important if you are writing an analytical article or a research paper, but it is also helpful if you are writing any kind of article.
An outline for an article should include the fplowing:
A topic sentence – this sentence introduces your topic and tells the reader what the article is about.
– this sentence introduces your topic and tells the reader what the article is about. Supporting sentences – these sentences provide evidence or examples to prove your thesis statement.
– these sentences provide evidence or examples to prove your thesis statement. A conclusion sentence – this sentence should restate your thesis.
Tip. If you have trouble getting started on your outline for an article, try brainstorming ideas. Jot down notes about ideas related to your topic as they come to you. You can organize these notes into a formal outline later.
The body of your outline for an article should include one or more paragraphs to support your thesis statement. The first paragraph of the body should present evidence and/or examples that relate to your thesis statement, while subsequent paragraphs can focus on different points. In other words, in each body paragraph, you need to provide a reason why your thesis statement is correct. Each body paragraph should be organized around a topic sentence and at least one supporting sentence.
Supporting sentences are essential because they give substance to your topic sentence. Remember that when you write any kind of article, you need to back up what you say with evidence. Otherwise, it’s just an opinion! So, keep your supporting sentences brief – no more than a few sentences per paragraph – and use specific details to show how or why your thesis is correct. Also, make sure that each supporting sentence contains a transition word or phrase (for example. therefore, furthermore, yet, another example, etc.. so that you can arrange each supporting sentence in order of importance and avoid a choppy flow in your article.
Conclusion Sentence. The conclusion sentence restates your topic sentence and reiterates your thesis statement. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you have finished your article – it just means that you have made a full circle and come back to where you started. For example. “Finally, Twitch and Basecamp 2 work together because…”
