Strava is an online fitness social network and GPS tracking app for runners and cyclists that tracks your exercise and contributes to your training log and provides digital leaderboards and trophies. It was founded by James Quarles, Jonathan Palley and Michael Horvath in 2009 and began as a social network for athletes who wanted to track their activities with other like-minded people. It has since added many new features such as segments which were released in March 2013, challenges which were released in April 2014 and became available to everyone starting April 2015, and multi-sport tracking since February 2016. The app keeps track of all your workouts and activities and lets you share them with others and keeps track of what you’ve done. Users can also create workout plans and join groups with like-minded people who have similar goals as them. Its key features include real-time GPS tracking, social networking platform ability to connect with other users through friending or fplowing, live competitive comparisons with other users as well as virtual competitions invpving either individual goals or time trials against other users’ personal records (PRs. The app also keeps track of data such as your heart rate during your workout and displays your position during your run or ride on a map using GPS technpogy. 2.2 History

On June 30, 2009 Strava was founded under the name “ShotTracker” by James Quarles, Jonathan Palley and Michael Horvath in San Francisco , California where its headquarters are now located . The idea was conceived during the 2008 Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco by Quarles who wanted an easier way to record his performance statistics during his runs than manually entering them into an Excel spreadsheet.
