Tumblr is a micro-blogging platform that allows users to post images, text and video content. The name “Tumblr” means “tumble”. It was started by David Karp in 2007 and later bought by Yahoo in 2013 for $1.1 billion. It is called the “blog of blogs” because it has been used by many popular bloggers such as Perez Hilton, Ashton Kutcher and Karl Lagerfeld. However, it is also used by a lot of people who don’t have blogs.
Tumblr is an open source platform that allows users to customize their blog. Users can reblog, like or leave comments to other users’ posts which makes the interaction between the users more effective. You can also see which users are fplowing you, on your dashboard.
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2. is a web service offered by Amazon.com, which provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is an IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service. platform which provides sputions for all the critical components that are needed for running a computer, such as hardware, operating systems, storage and applications.
It gives its customers the ability to launch virtual servers on demand without the need for setting up their own servers or infrastructure. Amazon EC2 provides scalable virtual servers for any application. Customers can run applications and websites using Amazon EC2 and pay only for what they use. They do not need to buy extra resources upfront, making it affordable for businesses to get started with little or no capital investment. Customers also benefit from lower operational costs compared to traditional server configurations.
Amazon EC2 can be used to help improve the scalability of Tumblr. Tumblr users are uploading videos at a very large scale which can put a heavy load on Tumblr’s database. To alleviate this problem, Tumblr should move away from storing video files on their own database and use Amazon S3 instead. S3 is a highly scalable storage service hosted by Amazon EC2 that will greatly reduce the load on Tumblr’s database since it will be handling all the videos uploaded by Tumblr users.
Amazon EC2 could also be used to help improve the security of Tumblr. Since Amazon EC2 provides protection from DDoS attacks, Tumblr users will not be able to take down Tumblr with denial of service attacks if they are hosted by Amazon EC2. Furthermore, since Amazon EC2 is accessed using public key cryptography, it is harder to hack into than traditional databases hosted on racks on datacenters. Currently, Tumblr uses MySQL as its database management system (DBMS), which is vulnerable to hacking attacks since it does not encrypt the connection between the database server and the application server. However, given that Amazon EC2 uses KMS (Key Management Service. to protect its data and encrypt connections between various services, it would be hard for hackers to break into Tumblr through its database server.
Tumblr users will experience improved scalability with the integration of Tumblr and Amazon EC2 since Amazon S3 is more scalable than Tumblr’s existing database spution. This will increase the performance of Tumblr since less resources will be needed to handle videos uploaded by its users. Since Tumblr users will no longer be able to take down Tumblr with denial of service attacks, it will be much safer for them to upload videos and pictures on Tumblr since they will not have to worry about getting their accounts suspended due to traffic flood attacks that take down the website. Using Amazon EC2 will also allow Tumblr users to protect the privacy of their personal information since Amazon EC2 uses public key cryptography while traditional databases use symmetric encryption.. Furthermore, having an encrypted connection between the database server and the application server will make it harder for hackers to access sensitive information stored in the database such as passwords and credit card details of Tumblr users. Finally, since Amazon S3 uses KMS to protect its data, it would be harder for hackers to break into Tumblr through its database server since KMS is more secure than MySQL in protecting data from hacking attacks.
