Integration of Tookan and Google CloudPrint

Tookan and Google CloudPrint. An Introduction

The first thing to say is that it is very hard to know precisely how many printers are in use in the world today. However there are estimated to be some 2.4 billion people who own a printer (The Printer Manufacturers Association. This figure includes both desktop and portable printers as well as those that come with computers and laptops, and those that are connected through the cloud. It is safe to say therefore, that we live in a world where printing is common place and even though technpogy and the digital age has brought about a new way of communicating and sharing information, printing remains an important part of our lives.

The Tookan printer manufacturers have been joined by others such as HP, Canon and Epson who have all joined the market with cloud-ready printers that can connect with Google CloudPrint. Tookan was founded in 2007 by Yitzchok Brody, a graduate from the Israeli Air Force Flight Schop who had the idea of combining a personal printer which could print from any device or computer using a browser. The idea of the Tookan printer was to eliminate the need for a computer to be attached to a printer and instead allow a printer to connect directly to the internet. The result is a device which can be used to print from any computer or smart phone. The great advantage of this is that if your computer or phone breaks down you don’t have to worry about not being able to print as you can simply go online and print from any device as long as it has access to the internet. In addition, there is no need to buy a printer which will only be compatible with one brand of computer or laptop as Tookan can work with any device.

The Tookan printer is a small box shaped printer which has an LCD screen on which text appears as it is being printed. This provides users with a preview of their document before printing which is an advantage over conventional printers where they have no idea whether what they are printing is going to look as they want it to. Once connected to Tookan, the user can easily order a print job by sending an email or entering print details into any web application such as Facebook, Google Docs or Yahoo Mail. The printing process begins immediately and the user is informed once the job has been completed – details of cost and estimated delivery time is also provided.

As well as providing an added level of security for the user, Tookan also offers high levels of privacy and security through encryption and password protection and it allows users to save money as they can purchase additional cartridges for those printers which use those types of cartridges. Users can also purchase additional storage space for texts and documents which they wish to keep permanently as well as buy stamps and envelopes. There are already 1000’s of users who have taken advantage of these features as well as those who use Tookan for business purposes including doctors offices, schops and small businesses who require access to printing facilities without having the cost of owning a printer themselves.

Google Cloud Print. An Introduction

Cloud computing has become very popular in recent years and has provided people with an easy and cheap way of accessing storage space online from wherever they are in the world. A number of major companies have already utilise cloud computing for their business including Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and Google amongst others. In fact Google Cloud Print is currently the only cloud service that supports printing from any device or operating system. In addition, Google Cloud Print provides a number of other benefits over conventional printers which include:

· No need for drivers – users can print from any device – PC, Mac, iPad – using a browser so there is no need for special software or drivers.

· Users don’t have to worry about making sure their computer or laptop meets manufacturer’s requirements as they can print from any device as long as they have access to the internet.

· Users don’t have to buy a new printer if they change their computer or laptop as they can simply log into Google Cloud Print from anywhere in the world as long as they have access to the internet.

· Any changes made by Google to their system will automatically be transferred to all enabled devices which means users will always have access to the latest improvements.

· Users can decide whether they want to print locally or remotely – if a printer is nearby then they will be able to print directly from their device but if it isn’t then Google Cloud Print will instead send them an email with the document attached so they can print it when they get home or wherever they happen to be.

· As well as saving money on paper costs, users won’t have to worry about losing their data if their computer or laptop breaks down because Google Cloud Print will store all data securely online so that it can be accessed at any time.

How Far Has Tookan Come?

The Tookan product has come on leaps and bounds since its conception in 2007 when Yitzchok Brody came up with the idea for creating a personal printer which could be used for printing from any device or computer using a browser. He went ahead with his idea after getting support from investors, raising $3 million in seed capital, developing an early prototype and working with partners who helped him turn his ideas into reality. At present there are around 2000 Tookan printers in use throughout Israel but the company also has plans to expand into Europe within the next 12 months with interest already shown by users across various European countries who are interested in buying one of these innovative printers. That said, Tookan does already supply printers for use in public places such as hotel foyers, doctor’s surgeries, shopping centres etc. so anyone wishing to buy one of these printers should be aware that only one person will be able to use it at any one time. However if you are looking for something more durable then you might find that there are other options out there offering greater reliability than Tookan printers do although you will also pay more for them too!
