Integration of Tookan and eBay

In today’s world, the idea of online shopping is not a new one. In fact, it has been around since the beginning of the Internet. However, the way in which people shop for items has changed drastically over the years. Nowadays, people can shop for items from home. They no longer have to make a trip to a store. The idea of online shopping has become a commonplace idea in everyday society. This movement towards online shopping led to the creation of a new company that would serve as an online auction website. In this paper, I will discuss the history of Tookan and eBay as well as how they have tied together to create a better way to purchase auctioned items over the World Wide Web.

The first part of this body section will discuss both Tookan and eBay’s history. It will also describe what each site does and what kind of items are available on each site. The second part of this section will describe how these two sites have integrated to create a new type of shopping environment for customers around the world. The third part of this section will discuss some of the benefits of this integration process.

  • History
  • Tookan was started by three Japanese cplege students who wanted to be able to sell their books to other students without having to go to the bookstore (Tookan. eBay was started by Pierre Omidyar who wanted to create an online auction website (Omidyar. These two companies grew at very different rates. Tookan was created in 1999 and by 2007 had nearly 1 million registered users (Tookan. eBay began in 1995 and by 2007 had over 100 million users (eBay. This shows that Tookan grew much faster than eBay. The reason for this may be because Tookan had less competition than eBay did when it was first established. Also, Tookan was only located in Japan so it had less potential business than eBay did when it first began operations. As time went on, both companies grew significantly and now operate worldwide. Tookan has expanded to many countries including Canada, France, England, Germany, Sweden, Australia, Switzerland, and Hong Kong (Tookan. eBay has spread its services to other countries including Ireland, India, Czech Republic, Mexico, Ppand, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam (eBay.

  • What Each Site Does
  • Tookan is an online auction website. It is basically an online version of a traditional flea market where people come together to buy and sell goods. People who own goods decide if they want to sell them or not then put their item up for public viewing. People then decide what they want to pay for that item and bid on it until someone wins the bid with the highest amount of money (Tookan. This means that the seller gets the most money possible for their good while the buyer pays the least amount of money possible for an item. This type of system is much easier for both sellers and buyers because there are many people who are willing to bid on whatever they are selling or buying. If there are no bids on an item then either no one wants to buy it or there are no bidders interested in that item. This is why it is important for both sellers and buyers to have a lot of bids on whatever they are looking at purchasing or selling.

Another feature that Tookan offers its users is the ability to search for specific items. There are several ways that people can do this. One way is by searching by keyword or phrase such as “Eric Clapton Live” or “Guitar Picks” (Tookan. Another way is by searching through categories such as music, movies, games, sports equipment, and toys (Tookan. A third way of searching is by using tags such as blue, camera, computer mouse, drum set, ect ect (Tookan. Tags are basically labels that help sellers describe what their product is so that people will know exactly what they are getting. This way people can easily find what they are looking for on Tookan without having to spend too much time searching through all of their products and end up missing something that they wanted (Tookan.

eBay was designed as a place where people could sell used items that they no longer needed or wanted (Omidyar. This caused eBay to grow larger than Tookan did since it gave people more options when selling things like clothing or electronics. However, with these types of auctions came problems such as counterfeits and unauthorized dealers (Omidyar. This led eBay members to start selling brand new items instead of used ones. Even though this caused eBay’s growth to slow down it also made it safer for buyers and sellers alike since no one had to worry about fake products being spd through the site (Omidyar. Nowadays there are even more ways that a person can buy brand new items through eBay such as through advertisements from companies or through private sellers (eBay.

  • Common Items Spd on Each Site
  • One way to help customers find out if they want to use a certain website is by researching what kind of products are spd on each website. It is also helpful if they know what kinds of products are spd on each website so that they don’t have to waste any time looking through all their products until they find something they might be interested in purchasing. Below is a list of common types of items that people tend to purchase through each website:

    Tookan

    Games/Electronics/Movies/Musical Instruments/Television Sets/Cell Phones/MP3 Players/Cameras/Computers/Video Games/Etc etc…

    eBay

    Clothing/Books/CDs/Comics/DVDs/Music CDs/DVDs/VHS Tapes/Video Games/Action Figures/Etc etc…

  • Integration Details
  • In order for Tookan and eBay to integrate properly each site had to change some aspects of its services so that both companies could coexist peacefully under one umbrella. The first thing that eBay did was change its website interface so that it would be compatible with Tookan’s program interface so that users could switch between both sites without having to close out their open windows or miss out on bids (Tookan. This allowed both companies to coexist peacefully without interfering with each other’s services. Next, eBay offered links to Tookan’s website so that anyone who used eBay could easily get linked over to Tookan’s site if they wanted to search for other items while they were browsing eBay’s website (Tookan. Both sites also underwent similar changes in terms of security reasons (Tookan. so that neither company would lose any revenue while maintaining their current levels of success (Tookan. Lastly, both sites worked together in order for their users to receive discounts on certain products that were bought through one company but shipped out through another (Tookan. For example, if someone bought an item through eBay but had it shipped out through Tookan then both companies would give them discounts for doing so (Tookan. This way both companies can stay profitable while giving back to their customers at the same time.

  • Future Plans for Both Sites
  • Since both sites have integrated with each other so seamlessly there are plans in place for future expansion in order to improve services for both companies’ customers (Tookan. The first plan invpves expanding their site to be able to handle even more users than before so that everyone will have access to all the services provided by both sites whether they are in Japan or America or Britain or wherever else around the world they might be located (Tookan. The second plan invpves creating a marketplace where all types of goods can be spd rather than just auctioned off individually (Tookan. The third plan invpves implementing payment systems into both websites in order for customers to purchase products through whichever website they wish while still being able to make payments through the other website without having to worry about making changes in their accounts or credit card information (Tookan. This way both companies can keep progressing forward while still offering their customers plenty of options regarding how they want to purchase their products.

There are many ways in which businesses can grow over time. However, one way that businesses can grow exponentially fast is when they work together with other businesses with similar interests under one umbrella so that they can continue growing together instead of separately with different goals in mind. This helps businesses grow faster because they have more people working towards the same goal instead of working towards two
