Integrate Textline with Habitica

This article will describe, what is Textline and how it is connected to Habitica. Additionally, the benefits of this integration and how it could be implemented into everyday usage will be explained further.

Textline is an application for mobile devices, which aims to help people in their lives. It does this by sending useful, motivating text messages at certain times of day/days of the week (“Welcome Weekday”. or as a reaction to certain actions (“Achieve!”. The texts can be sent to any mobile number. This feature is very helpful for getting up early, going to bed on time and even forgetting about your work at work. Due to its simplicity and usefulness Textline became very popular and currently has more than 230,000 users.

Habitica is a free and open source project for self-improvement via gamification. Its features include tracking your daily tasks, setting goals and rewarding yourself for achievements. There are 500+ existing Habits and Quests available for you to choose from. It is also possible to create custom ones. Habitica offers its service as a website and as a mobile app on Android, iOS and Windows Phone.

By integrating Textline with Habitica, all users would be able to communicate with Textline on the Textline website, instead of on their mobile phone. Thus, no one would need to consider whether they have their phone with them. Furthermore, users could also use Textline’s functions without having to switch between websites. All of Textline’s features would then be available on Habitica.

Figure 1 exemplifies how Textline could be implemented on Habitica by using some of the existing features of the website. The first two screenshots show the main page of both applications respectively. The third screenshot shows the textbox of the “Text Messages” feature on the Textline website. The last screenshot shows the new textbox of Habitica after integrating Textline. It contains the same text as shown on the “Text Messages” feature of Textline. The new textbox of Habitica allows users to create text messages with images, instead of just plain text. This is not possible on Textline due to technical restrictions.

By adding Textline’s features to Habitica, users could benefit from receiving motivating text messages via their mobile phone or online on their computer. Both apps would be able to communicate with each other and share data/information without having to leave Habitica or create accounts on other websites. All of Textline’s applications would be available within Habitica. Thereby, users would no longer need multiple apps to achieve their goals.
