Integration of Tableau and Shopify

Tableau?

Tableau Software is a company founded in 2004 and based in Seattle, Washington. It develops and sells data visualization software to business and government agencies worldwide.

In 2007, Tableau released its first product, Tableau Desktop, a top for visualizing and analyzing data. Tableau Desktop was the first product developed by the company. In September 2010, Tableau launched its cloud version called Tableau Public.

Tableau Public gives users the ability to create public data visualizations and embed them on blogs and websites. On March 2nd of 2012, Tableau acquired Hyperion Sputions, a business intelligence provider. In 2013, Tableau is selected as one of Forbes’ Cloud 100 companies.

Shopify?

Shopify is an e-commerce platform that enables anyone to easily set up an online store to sell products online. Shopify has two main products. Shopify and Shopify Plus. The former is geared toward smaller businesses while the latter is intended for larger enterprises.

Shopify Plus provides everything a merchant needs to have a functional online store, including the storefront itself, a point-of-sale system (using a receipt printer), email marketing, fraud protection, and credit card processing.

Integration of Tableau and Shopify

According to the Tableau website, “Tableau helps you make sense of your data. Our products help every department in your organization see and understand their data in new ways—and make smarter decisions as a result.” With this in mind, it seems natural that Tableau would be a useful top for Shopify merchants who want to gain insights about their own sales data in order to make more informed business decisions.

Tableau integrates with Shopify through the Shopify Data Connector app. This app allows Shopify merchants to connect to their existing stores and extract data from the reports they have created there. Since these reports are usually built on top of existing data stored in an SQL Database, the integration doesn’t require any additional server configuration. The connection simply consists of connecting to a database via JDBC (Java Database Connectivity. This approach makes it easier for users to pick up where they left off thanks to the familiarity of using plugins that are already available on Shopify data reports.

Tableau Public also provides opportunities for Shopify merchants by allowing them to share their insights with others. Any report built with Tableau can be embedded into a blog or any other website and shared with others who may be interested in the topic. The embedded reports allow users to interact with them like they would with Google Documents or Microsoft Excel documents, which leads to greater audience engagement than static data visualizations that are typically used to disseminate information. For instance, visitors who are viewing an embedded report can hover over individual items and see details about the specific product or service from the report directly on their screen. This feature eliminates the need for users to manually compile information from other sources such as emails or spreadsheets when they wish to view additional details about a particular item on a report.

Benefits of Integration of Tableau and Shopify

The integration of Tableau and Shopify provides several benefits for both companies, as well as for their customers. For Shopify merchants, integrating data from Shopify into Tableau gives them the ability to better understand their own business. Having access to such information allows them to make informed decisions that will ultimately improve their business performance. One example of this benefit would be if a merchant were able to see on which days they get more traffic on Facebook (to better understand which advertisements are working. or if they are able to determine which products and services get purchased most frequently. This insight could help them make changes that will positively affect their bottom line over time.

Additionally, integrating Shopify data into Tableau allows merchants to view all of this information side by side with other types of data gathered outside of Shopify, such as demographic information or search engine keyword data. This allows merchants to see how some of their actions affect their business across multiple dimensions at once. By being able to do this analysis, merchants will be able to make the most out of all of the data that they have cplected (provided that they have cplected the right kind of data. Given that many companies cplect varying kinds of data, this unified view of one’s business can help tremendously when deciding where future efforts should be placed in order to maximize performance in one’s business.

For Tableau, having an active community of users means more people using their product, which leads to more revenue for them down the road. Additionally, having people share their findings with others through embedded reports from Tableau Public can lead to increased brand awareness for Tableau among potential customers. Thus, by having more customers use Tableau within their businesses, they will likely find it beneficial from a financial perspective as well since they will be able to charge those customers for ongoing usage or upgrades down the road. Therefore, by integrating with Shopify both companies will benefit by being able to reach more potential customers and increase brand awareness among those new customers acquired through this expansion into new markets.
