Tableau has an inbuilt feature called “Paste JSON” which allows you to integrate your data with Tableau for visualization. You can integrate your data with Tableau through “Paste JSON” by importing a JSON file. To create an integration between Tableau and Gmail, you need to create a JSON file which has two categories. “Data” and “Attributes”. The data category contains the data which you want to visualize in Tableau while attributes category contains all the fields which are required to be mapped in order to connect the data with Tableau from Gmail. All the fields which required to be mapped should be present in both categories.
For example, I want to use an email from Gmail for my analysis. I am going to use the email of Joseph Avelino who works at PwC. So, I need the fplowing information from his email:
First Name. Joseph
Last Name. Avelino
Email Address. [email protected]
Name of the Company. PwC
City. New York City
Zip Code. 10001-5201
In the above JSON file, I have mapped all the data fields with their respective names. Now, I will open a new workbook and paste this JSON file in it. After that, I will select “Get Data” menu option and then click on “From Web” icon. After that, I will click on “Select JSON File” icon which will ask me to choose the JSON file which I have created earlier. After choosing the appropriate JSON file, I will select all the fields by checking on the checkboxes next to them and then click on “Next” button. After that, I will choose “Create Connection” from the left panel and then select “OK” button from the right panel. After that, I will choose “Save” icon from the left panel and then click on “Yes” button for creating a connection between Gmail and Tableau. After saving this connection, my data from Gmail is now available for analysis in Tableau. It is also possible to save this connection without saving it as a permanent connection as well. Here is how my table looks like after integrating Gmail data with Tableau:
Integration of Tableau and Gmail is very simple but very helpful in making amazing dashboards. You just need to copy a simple JSON file which contains mapping information between different fields and then paste it in Tableau.
