Integration of Stripe and Twitter

Stripe is a software company that offers an online service for businesses to accept payments over the Internet. Stripe has been built from ground-up with a focus on providing excellent developer experience. Stripe's high quality code and extensive documentation enables developers to integrate payment processing into websites and mobile apps in minutes. In addition, Stripe provides developers with software development kits (SDKs. for different programming languages and platforms such as PHP, Python, Ruby, iOS, Android, etc.

Stripe is led by brothers Patrick and John Cplison who grew up in Ireland and attended high schop together. They are both graduates of Harvard University, where they studied computer science. Their father was an entrepreneur who ran a small pharmaceutical company called Amgen, which prompted the brothers to start coding at the age of 13 when they created a website for their dad's business. Stripe was founded two years later in 2010 by the brothers at Y Combinator's startup incubator program. Stripe officially launched in September 2011.

Twitter is a social networking service that enables its users to send and read messages known as "tweets". Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to their fplowers who are known as "fplowers". Users access Twitter through the website interface, Short Message Service (SMS), or mobile device app. Twitter Inc. is based in San Francisco and has more than 25 offices around the world.

Integration of Stripe and Twitter

On June 22nd, Stripe announced that its payments platform is now integrated with Twitter. This integration enables customers to use their Twitter account to connect directly to Stripe and process payments using a credit card or bank account. It allows businesses to receive payments on-site without having to redirect customers to another site or being required to store sensitive information like credit card numbers.

How it works. To enable this integration, Stripe has created a new product called "Connect" which enables businesses to accept payments on behalf of other businesses or utilise the infrastructure of other businesses within their own applications. For example, a business can offer its customers a feature that allows them to pay from their existing Twitter account instead of storing credit card details. The customer can click on a button that says "Pay via Twitter" and receive a prompt from Stripe asking if they want to pay via Twitter (Twitter will generate a unique code for each transaction. Stripe then sends this code back to the customer's Twitter account, where the customer can approve the transaction with a single click. Twitter charges Stripe 15 cents per transaction, which is the standard rate for all connected applications.

Benefits of Integration of Stripe and Twitter

  • More convenient for customers. Customers can make purchases without having to enter payment details multiple times, which is more convenient than entering their credit card details on-site when they are ready to purchase. This integration also reduces the amount of steps required by customers to complete a purchase because they do not have to leave the site or app where they are browsing products or services.
  • Less friction in payments. This integration can eliminate the friction that often occurs around payments because customers do not have to enter all of their payment details again each time they decide to purchase something online from a new website or app. This means that businesses will be able to reduce payment abandonment, which occurs when customers abandon the purchasing process due to too many steps or problems with entering the right data for payment processing. It can also reduce instances where customers accidentally make multiple orders because they do not realise that they have already entered their payment details and select "Place your order" again without realising that they have already paid once before.
  • Increased conversion rates. This integration may increase conversion rates because customers can complete the purchase process quicker than they would otherwise be able to and more likely get distracted before completing the process if there is an excessive number of steps invpved in entering payment details. For example, if a customer were to purchase tickets online for an event, they may become distracted by social media while trying to enter payment details during checkout, which might cause them to inadvertently leave without completing their purchase. This integration should help reduce the instances of customers becoming distracted while trying to purchase products or services online because they will be able to complete the purchase process faster than before.
