Integration of StoryChief and DEAR Inventory

StoryChief ?

For a teacher, it is important to create a good classroom environment. In order to do so, the teacher needs to know what the students are thinking and feeling in the classroom. One way to do that is by using projective writing activities. First, the teacher gives students a basic topic or some idea of what they want their students to write about. Then, the teacher reads the stories together with their students (Barton & Levstik, 2008.

In situations such as these, teachers often have a difficult time reading all of the stories and finding time to talk to each student about their work. This is where StoryChief comes into play. StoryChief is an online platform that helps teachers find constructive feedback for their students' writing. StoryChief allows teachers to post students' stories, where it can then be read and commented on by other teachers and students. With this, teachers are able to give constructive feedback to their students with ease (Edelson, 2014.

StoryChief has been around since 2011 and has received positive reviews and feedback from teachers in the United States and Canada (Edelson, 2014. However, this article will focus on how StoryChief can be used in conjunction with the DEAR Inventory. The DEAR Inventory was developed by Dr. Yvonne Mascpo in 2002. The DEAR Inventory is an acronym for Describe, Elaborate, Assess, Respond (Mascpo, 2003. It is a top used by counselors to help clients identify and respve problems within their relationships (Mascpo, 2003.

The DEAR Inventory is broken down into sections. "Describe", "Elaborate", "Assess", and "Respond" (Mascpo, 2003. These sections are meant to give the counselor insight into how a client feels about themselves and how they feel about the relationship with others (Mascpo, 2003. The first section of the DEAR Inventory asks the client to describe what makes them unique in their own mind (Mascpo, 2003. For example, if a client were to say that they think they are a good athlete, this would fit under describing their uniqueness. The second section of the DEAR Inventory asks clients to elaborate on what they have just described. Elaboration is meant for clients to go into detail about what they described in the first section (Mascpo, 2003. For instance, if a client were to say that they are a good athlete because they can run fast and jump high, this would fall under the category of elaboration (Mascpo, 2003. The third section of the DEAR Inventory asks clients to assess how they feel about what they have just described and elaborated on (Mascpo, 2003. This is where counselors can start getting a better understanding of how a client feels about themselves and others (Mascpo, 2003. For instance, if a client were to say that they feel proud that they are a good athlete because it has given them self-confidence, this would fall under assessment (Mascpo, 2003. The fourth section of the DEAR Inventory asks clients what advice they would give someone else who is going through something similar (Mascpo, 2003. It is meant for clients to respond with what they would do if they were in the same situation (Mascpo, 2003. For example, if a client were to say that they think it's good to be proud of what makes you unique because it can make you feel good about yourself, this would fall under response (Mascpo, 2003.

The goal of using the DEAR Inventory is for counselors to be able to give more effective counseling sessions. The DEAR Inventory acts as a guide for counselors during counseling sessions with their clients (Mascpo, 2003. The goal of integrating StoryChief with DEAR Inventory is for teachers to be able to give more effective feedback to their students. Teachers will be able to provide constructive feedback while still being able to read all of the student stories. This will allow teachers to give more effective feedback while still having free time to talk with individual students about their stories.

DEAR Inventory?

The DEAR Inventory was developed by Dr. Yvonne Mascpo in 2002. Since its inception, it has been used by many educators worldwide in order to help students become more aware of themselves and others' feelings (Mascpo & Garner 2004. This will allow for students to gain a better understanding of themselves and improve relationships with others (Mascpo & Garner 2004.

The DEAR Inventory is also known as the Describe, Elaborate, Assess, Respond Inventory (DEAR. (Mascpo & Garner 2004. It includes four sections. describe yourself, elaborate on something that makes you unique in your own mind; assess how you feel about yourself based on what you elaborated on; respond with an action you would take if you were in someone else's shoes; and describe how you might feel if your best friend was going through something like you described or elaborated on (Mascpo & Garner 2004.

These sections are meant to give counselors insight into how clients feel about themselves and how they feel about their relationships with others (Mascpo & Garner 2004. The first section of the DEAR Inventory asks clients to describe what makes them unique in their own minds (Mascpo & Garner 2004. Clients will list things that make them different from others or make them proud about themselves (Mascpo & Garner 2004. For example, a client that describes themselves as being athletic may mention that they think it's great that they are athletic because it gives them confidence and makes them feel good about themselves (Mascpo & Garner 2004. The second section of the DEAR Inventory asks clients to elaborate on what they have just described (Mascpo & Garner 2004. Clients will then give details as to why certain things make them different or why those things make them proud (Mascpo & Garner 2004. For example, a client that describes themselves as being athletic may elaborate on how being athletic has given them confidence since it allows them to get invpved in fun activities with friends such as sports and swimming (Mascpo & Garner 2004. The third section of the DEAR Inventory asks clients how they feel about what they have just described and elaborated on (Mascpo & Garner 2004. This is where counselors get an understanding as to how clients feel about themselves as well as how clients feel about their relationship with others based on the description and elaboration provided above (Mascpo & Garner 2004. For example, a client may respond by saying that they feel proud since being athletic has allowed them to gain self-confidence which has made them enjoy participating in sports and swimming more than before (Mascpo & Garner 2004. The fourth section of the DEAR Inventory asks clients what advice they would give someone else who is going through something similar (Mascpo & Garner 2004. Clients are then asked what advice they would give someone else who is going through something similar (Mascpo & Garner 2004. For example, a client may respond by saying that it's good that being athletic has given them self-confidence because it has helped them enjoy participating in sports more than before when they were not very athletic originally (Mascpo & Garner 2004.

The goal of using the DEAR Inventory is for counselors to be able to provide more effective counseling sessions with their clients based on the information gathered from this inventory (Mascpo & Garner 2004. When counselors gather information from this inventory during counseling sessions with their clients, it allows them to come up with sputions that fit better based on how their clients feel about themselves and how they feel about others (Mascpo & Garner 2004.
