Square is a mobile payment system which enables businesses to accept credit cards and debit cards through their smartphones. It is also a card reader that can be plugged into mobile devices to make payments. Square charges no transaction fees for accepting credit cards. Users of the service can accept two types of payments. one-time payments with credit cards; and repeating payments with debit cards. Furthermore, it has a free CRM feature that allows merchants to manage multiple transactions with their customers. Square has a $0.15 fixed fee for swiped transactions in the United States, or 2.75% for manually entered transactions. It does not charge any transaction fees for non-US merchants and waives the fixed fees for US merchants for the first 1,000 transactions each calendar month. The company has also introduced a new card reader called Square Register, which is larger than its other card readers and allows all payments to be made through an iPad on which it is plugged in. The Register device also provides a cash drawer for users to manage cash received from customers, and gives business owners the ability to track sales in real time through a web application that syncs with their iPad. Square also has an iPhone app and an Android app that are available in the App Store and the Android Market respectively.
Sina Weibo is a microblogging website launched by Chinese web portal Sina Corporation on 14 August 2009. As of February 2014, Sina Weibo has more than 500 million registered accounts. As with other social media platforms, users can send messages, images, videos, emoticons, stickers, audio files, etc., and users can comment on the newsfeed of others’ posts. Sina Weibo is a hybrid of a social network service and a microblogging service, as it allows users to both post information for their fplowers to see (microblog), as well as to subscribe to the feeds of other users (social networking. Users must register with their real names and locations; however, use of the website is anonymous otherwise. Sina Weibo is similar to Twitter in function and usage, but Weibo allows users more options for their posts. Unlike Twitter, which limits posts to 140 characters, Weibo allows users 30,000 characters in length. In addition, Weibo posts are more durable. while Twitter posts automatically expire after 24 hours, Weibo posts can remain online indefinitely. The service supports 140 Chinese characters, and 20 Latin characters besides Simplified Chinese ones. The content of Weibo is publicly visible, as opposed to other Chinese microblogging websites such as Tencent Weibo and Baidu Post Bar which require logging in with a Chinese phone number and mobile number respectively. Users do not need to pay anything to read other people’s posts. However, they have to pay approximately US$1 per month if they wish to post blogs themselves. These subscription costs make Sina Weibo less popular than other social media platforms in China such as Tencent Weibo, whose free model attracts many more Internet users. However, Sina Weibo enjoys popularity among some groups such as journalists, celebrities, official organizations and ppitical commentators who need anonymity or wider dissemination than offered by mainstream Chinese social media websites such as Tencent Weibo. To make sure that advertisements do not appear in feeds of subscribers who have not paid for them, Sina developed an algorithm called “Friendship Circle” to identify subscribers who have both subscribed and added one another as friends in real life (in Chinese 经常联系) This filter has been criticized by some non-paying subscribers as being unfair. This has led some people to use technical workarounds to bypass the filter so they can view the advertisements again
