Spotify is a music streaming service that allows users to stream music from a large library of artists, producers, and composers. You can either use Spotify's free or paid service. The free version of Spotify allows users to play up to 6-hours of music at one time, whereas the paid version gives an unlimited access to its library of music. In 2017, Spotify had a total of 140 million active users.
GitLab is a web-based open source software development platform that offers services such as issue tracking, code reviews, and code management. It is used for private projects but also for running businesses and has over 100,000 organizations using it. GitLab supports different programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, Ruby, Go, etc.
I am going to analyze the integration of Spotify and GitLab in this article.
Integrating Spotify and GitLab helped both companies improve their productivity in several aspects. First of all, the integration allowed both companies to get rid of the necessity to use additional third-party tops like Jira, GitLab's issue tracker or Confluence, their wiki management software. This way the companies saved time on maintaining these tops because they did not have to update them constantly after each update made on the other tops. The integration also allowed the companies to reduce the cost of software licenses by getting rid of unnecessary licenses for third-party tops. In addition, Spotify and GitLab were able to create new features faster because they were able to build new features on top of each other's services. For example, GitLab added the ability to integrate its issue management spution with GitHub in 2015. This integration allowed users to comment on GitHub issues directly from GitLab repository. This functionality improved the efficiency of issue tracking process between GitHub and Gitlab and increased productivity of the developers and product managers who use these two platforms. In addition, integration helped both companies reduce the possibility of human errors when working on tasks that required data entry into multiple systems at the same time. Furthermore, integration was beneficial for both companies because it allowed them to get rid of non-productive meetings. For example, product managers and developers from both companies would no longer spend time discussing how they would work together; instead they would just start doing it.
In conclusion, I would like to say that integrating Spotify and GitLab was definitely a good idea for both companies because it helped them get rid of additional costs related to software maintenance and reduced waiting time on new functionalities developed for their products. In addition, integration improved productivity of engineers and product managers which led to overall improvement in their products' quality. Integration was beneficial for both companies because it eliminated non-productive meetings and thus allowed them to focus more on building great products for their customers.
