In this article about Snapchat and Google Photos, I will be discussing how Snapchat has affected the market for Google photos. Snapchat has been around for quite some time already, as compared to Google photos. It is a photo-sharing application and it started out as a video-messaging app that became very popular among teenagers. In 2013, Snapchat was acquired by Facebook for $3 billion. This acquisition worked in favor of Google, and helped Google introduce their own version of the app, Google Photos.
Snapchat was launched in 2011 as an iOS-only app and was later released on Android in the year 2012. It is currently available on all major mobile operating systems. The app allows users to take pictures or videos (called snaps. and send them to other users who can view them for 10 seconds before they self-destruct. The app also includes a feature called “stories” which are cplections of snaps that expire after 24 hours. Google Photos was launched in May 2015, a month after the Facebook acquisition. Google Photos is a free cloud storage service included with Google Drive that offers unlimited storage space for photos and videos at the original size and respution.
The integration of Snapchat and Google Photos is one good reason for introducing Google photos. The first integration between the two apps was when Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, introduced geofilters on the platform. Geofilters are visual overlays that are specific to locations. Soon after the introduction of geofilters, users were able to create their own custom geofilters, with photos or artwork added as part of the overlay. This feature became available on both platforms; however, it was only available to brands, businesses, and organizations. With the introduction of custom geofilters on both platforms, users could design unique filters for parties or events.
The second integration was when Snap Inc., introduced Lens Filters that were integrated into Snapchat and Google Photos. Users who installed Snapchat could use Lens Filters and add animations to their face, such as adding animal ears or turning themselves into virtual zombies, or adding a flower crown. These filters are also available on Google Photos; however, this feature is not available on any other app but Snapchat and Google Photos. This feature was designed to be used with selfie modes only on both platforms.
The third integration is when Google Photos launched its own Memories feature which is similar to the snapchat stories feature. This feature allows users to create cplages or montages of photos from their cplections and share them with friends or family members. However, unlike snapchat stories, these memories last forever on Google photos. This integration of Snapchat and Google photos also gives users the option to share them on other social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Google Photos also offers high-quality photo printing services at affordable prices through its partnerships with a number of labs across the globe. It also supports more than 50 different languages making it one of the most accessible applications online today. Through this integration of Snapchat and Google photos, we have seen a significant drop in the number of people using Snapchat alone. While it is still a very popular social media application, the growth rate has slowed down significantly since the introduction of Google photos.
