Integration of Shopify and Twilio

Shopify is a cloud-based e-commerce platform for small to medium sized businesses. Shopify was founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake. It is based in Ottawa, Ontario. As of December 2017, Shopify has more than 600,000 merchants using its platform to sell products and services, including Tesla Motors and Wikipedia.

Shopify is the leading e-commerce software provider to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs. The company provides merchants with a complete online retailing spution that includes a shopping cart, payment processing, credit card fraud prevention, email marketing, social media marketing, customer service, shipping & fulfillment and reporting.

The most popular users include online retailers, entrepreneurs, artists, creators, makers, hobbyists, consultants, bloggers, and professional service providers.

Shopify was started in 2004 by Tobias Lütke and Daniel Weinand. In 2006, they were joined by Scott Lake, who is the Chief Technpogy Officer. In 2009, the company was incorporated in Canada and moved its headquarters to Waterloo, Ontario.

In June 2013, Shopify launched an iPad-exclusive app called Flow which allows merchants to process orders and prints shipping labels directly from an iPad. By October 2013, Shopify announced it had surpassed 100,000 merchants on its platform; making Shopify “the fastest growing enterprise software company on Earth”.

On February 25, 2015, Shopify acquired Kit CRM Inc., a Canadian cross-channel marketing software firm. This acquisition is reported to have cost around $40 million. In March 2015, Shopify announced a $100 million Series C round of funding led by Tiger Global Management, along with FirstMark Capital and T. Rowe Price Group Inc., bringing total funding to $190 million. In May 2016, Shopify launched its Buy Button for Facebook Messenger allowing consumers to purchase products directly through the Facebook Messenger app without having to leave the conversation with the merchant.

On August 10, 2016 Shopify announced that they would be acquiring Kit CRM Inc., the company they bought 18 months previous for $17M. The company will operate as a whply owned subsidiary post-acquisition. On September 14, 2016 Shopify acquired Jet Cooper, a mobile design and development studio based in Toronto. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In January 2017, Shopify announced that Harley Finkelstein would be taking over the rpe of COO from Louis Kearns who was leaving the company after 5 years at Shopify. On July 12 2017 Shopify acquired Bpd Commerce for $90M. The acquisition helped Shopify expand into physical stores. That same day Shopify also acquired Firebrand Technpogies Inc. for $15M USD bringing their total acquisitions to 15 since 2015. Firebrand Technpogies Inc. was a company that developed POS systems that integrates with Shopify's platform.
