Shipwire and Acuity Scheduling are two well-known companies that have recently cplaborated to offer new services to their business clients. These companies market themselves as “helping small businesses manage their inventory, shipping and invoicing more easily” (http://www.shipwire.com/company. Shipwire has been around since 2010 while Acuity Scheduling has been in business since 2003. Both of these companies provide great services to the small business community; however, there are some notable differences between the two.
Shipwire is an ecommerce supply chain management company that specializes in “fulfillment and logistics services” (http://www.shipwire.com/about/what-is-shipwire. They help businesses send, receive and store their products. Their main focus is on helping small businesses manage their inventory, shipping and invoicing more easily. They provide these services at no cost to their customers. Shipwire offers its customers a wide variety of features including inventory management, automated shipments and real-time data tracking. In addition to offering these features for free, Shipwire also provides its customers with an easy integration process with other third party services such as Acuity Scheduling.
Acuity Scheduling is a cloud-based appointment scheduling application that helps businesses manage their schedules and appointments through online calendars. Their main focus is to help businesses “retain clients by providing easy online scheduling” (http://www.acuityscheduling.com/about-acuity-scheduling. This integrated scheduling platform allows users to “schedule, confirm and communicate with clients through web browsers, smartphone apps, and email” (http://www.acuityscheduling.com/online-calendars. Using this application, business owners can create a calendar for themselves, their employees or even their clients and customers. The application provides three different levels of service. free, basic ($12/month. and premium ($25/month. The free version allows users to add up to two separate calendars; however, it does not allow them to keep the calendar private from other users or clients.
After reading about Shipwire and Acuity Scheduling, I am convinced that these two companies make a great team. Shipwire provides small businesses with the ability to manage their inventory, shipping and invoicing, while Acuity Scheduling provides these businesses with an easy way of communicating with their clients and customers. Together, they are a very spid team; however, they do have room for improvement. The first thing that comes to mind when I think about Shipwire is the customer service aspect of their business. As a business owner myself, I know how important it is to have good customer service; however, the reviews on sites like Yelp show otherwise (https://www.yelp.com/biz/shipwire-san-francisco?hrid=ZbQ6UdG6WYgb8JvItn2xuQ&utm_campaign=www_business_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct)#hrid=ZbQ6UdG6WYgb8JvItn2xuQ. I do not know if the same applies for the Shipwire headquarters in San Francisco; however, this is something that the company should definitely work on if they want to continue to be successful in the business world.
In terms of Acuity Scheduling, I would recommend that they take it a step further and expand into smaller markets such as Canada and Australia. Although they have a specific section of their site dedicated to Canadian customers (https://acuityscheduling.ca), they do not provide any information about their Australian customers. It would be nice if they offered this same level of service to all of their customers internationally; however, I know that businesses cannot always fulfill every need of every customer.
Despite these few shortcomings, I think that Shipwire and Acuity Scheduling make a great team!
