Tumblr is a microblogging and social networking website that was founded in 2007 by David Karp. It allows users to create and post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. In December of 2017, Yahoo! announced that it would be acquiring Tumblr for $1.1 billion. According to the New York Times article announcing the acquisition, Yahoo! stated that its goal was to “create the next great media company”. The company hoped that Tumblr would bring in more than $100 million in revenue in 2014. At the time of the acquisition in late 2017, Tumblr was estimated to have about 300 million monthly users.
ShipStation has an integration with Tumblr allowing users to send their Tumblr posts to ShipStation as orders. Once the order is created, users can connect their ShipStation account with their Tumblr account and the order will become a shipment within ShipStation. Once the shipment is created, users can then add addresses, tracking numbers, print labels, etc. The integration between ShipStation and Tumblr also allows users to connect their ShipStation account with their Etsy or eBay accounts as well so they can manage their shipments from one place. However, the only way Tumblr users can purchase postage through ShipStation is through the browser extension available for Chrome or Firefox. This means that Etsy or eBay users cannot purchase postage using ShipStation through Tumblr. But, for Etsy and eBay users who use ShipStation for their business, there is another option to purchase postage online. Etsy and eBay users can create a shipping profile on ShipStation and purchase postage online through the ShipStation website. Etsy and eBay users can then set these shipping profiles up within their Etsy or eBay profiles so all packages sent through Etsy or eBay will automatically be printed with these shipping profiles when they are ordered online. By doing this, Etsy and eBay users can print labels from any computer and ship from anywhere without having to worry about printing labels at home or going to the Post Office. For example, if an Etsy or eBay user creates a shipping profile called “Packages” and sets their address within the profile as “Home”, any package sent through Etsy or eBay will automatically be printed at home unless the buyer requests to pick up at the Post Office instead. If Etsy or eBay sellers also ship through Shopify stores or Bigcommerce stores, they can also set up ShipStation with Shopify or Bigcommerce so they can manage all of their shipments from one place. Users can set all of these shipping profiles up within ShipStation, but they must complete these steps separately for each account they have set up under ShipStation. For those who are currently using a third-party shipping service like Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), ShipStation does not have an integration with Amazon which means that these users will have to use separate accounts for each service which will make their shipping process much more complicated than it needs to be. However, there are two ways that FBA and ShipStation can work together. 1. Sellers can use ShipStation’s Label Manager to print labels directly onto Amazon packaging; 2. Sellers can use Label Manager to print drop-ship labels onto envelopes, boxes, etc., then ship these items directly to FBA warehouses from home or from any local USPS hub without needing to go through an Amazon fulfillment center first. 1. When using Label Manager with Amazon packaging, sellers will need to create a shipping profile for every type of packaging that they use for products that are shipped through FBA since each product may have different requirements for packaging depending on what it is being shipped in. For example, if a seller sells bobbleheads online, they may choose to ship out their bobbleheads in boxes because the bobbleheads are fragile and need extra protection during shipment. If they are selling sunglasses however, they could choose not to ship them in boxes because they are less fragile than bobbleheads and don’t require as much extra protection during shipment. So, if this seller uses FBA for either of these two products, they would need two different shipping profiles in Label Manager. one for bobbleheads shipped in boxes and one for sunglasses shipped in flat-rate envelopes or small boxes depending on how much they weigh or how much they cost so there will not be any excess postage paid on shipments. This way if an order gets placed for either of these two products through Amazon (or another retailer), the seller would know exactly what type of packaging to send out to the buyer so there is no confusion about which shipping profile to use for which product. They would simply select the correct shipping profile based on what was ordered online by the buyer so there would be no confusion about which product should be shipped out in which type of packaging. When using Label Manager with Amazon packaging, users will also need to print out labels at home rather than using the Label Manager app on their computer since Label Manager does not support Amazon FBA labels. Since labels cannot be printed out using Label Manager with Amazon FBA labels, users must print out labels using one of three other methods. 1. Print labels right onto the product; 2. Print labels onto paper labels; 3. Load new label paper into Label Manager’s printer (this option would force sellers to purchase new label paper. There are three main benefits of using Label Manager with Amazon packaging. 1. The process is fast because you do not have to keep switching between Label Manager (for printing out labels. and Amazon (for checking your inventory levels); 2. Shipping labels can be printed directly onto the Amazon packaging; 3. You can use Label Manager’s built-in mail merge feature so you can personalize your outgoing packages by adding different customer information (e.g., names and phone numbers. into your outgoing packages depending on who purchased each product (e.g., if you sell them as individual products online. 2. Another option for sellers who use FBA is to load new label paper into Label Manager’s printer and print out labels on blank label sheets before sending these sheets off to FBA warehouses with shipments from home or from any local USPS hub without needing to go through an FBA warehouse first. This option does not have the same benefits that option 1 above has where buyers can see which type of packaging should be used for each product when ordering items online through Amazon, but this option has some benefits over option 1 above as well. 1. The process is very simple since sellers do not have to switch between Label Manager (for printing out labels. and Amazon (for checking inventory levels); 2. It is easy to print out blank label sheets outside of Label Manager since all that needs to be done is loading up new label paper into the Label Manager printer; 3. Personalization features are available within Label Manager where sellers can check inventory levels and add custom text into their outgoing packages (e.g., customer’s name. before printing out labels; 4. Labels can be printed on blank label sheets using either a desktop computer or a mobile device; 5. A mobile device is not required when printing out labels from home using this method since printers are usually connected directly to computers so sellers can just print out blank label sheets using any computer that is connected to their home printer; 6. Since labels are printed on blank label sheets using this method, sellers have more flexibility in choosing where they want their shipments to go when using FBA since there are no restrictions on what types of products should be shipped in what types of packaging; 7. Since sellers are not restricted from sending products in any type of packaging (e.g., if they want to send products in large boxes or padded envelopes even though they would be charged more than if they sent them in boxes), this means that sellers can save money on shipping whenever possible by sending products in smaller and cheaper types of packaging; 8. Sellers do not need a smartphone or tablet when using this method since printers are usually connected directly to computers so sellers can just print out blank label sheets using any computer that is connected to their home printer; 9. Labels cannot be printed on blank label sheets using Label Manager with Amazon packaging since Label Manager does not support Amazon FBA labels; 10. Selling products through FBA may limit sellers because they cannot send certain types of products through FBA (e.g.,
