Integration of ShipStation and Nutshell


ShipStation is a company based out of Austin, Texas that has developed a program that allows companies to manage order fulfillment and shipping. ShipStation also provides an API which can be used to integrate this system with other applications. This API is called the Nutshell API, for reasons I will discuss later.


Nutshell is an application designed to help companies manage their inventory, order fulfillment, and other day-to-day business operations. Think of it as “Shopify for your business”. It was started in 2011 by 5th Wall Sputions, but was acquired by Salesforce in 2015. Around the same time, Salesforce acquired Demandware, another e-commerce platform. Since then, Salesforce has been integrating the two platforms to create a more complete spution for all of their customers.

Integration of ShipStation and Nutshell

As mentioned previously, the API provided by ShipStation is called Nutshell. When Salesforce acquired both Nutshell and Demandware, they integrated them into one platform. Now you can connect your ShipStation account to your Nutshell account, allowing you to manage your orders, inventory, and shipments within the same interface. This integration is done through the API, which allows you to do things like create new orders in Nutshell or change product prices in ShipStation right from Nutshell. This can save you a lot of time instead of having to switch between multiple applications.
