Introduction to Ecwid:
Ecwid is a platform that allows users to create e-commerce websites for free. It offers varying levels of contrp for different types of users. Ecwid offers a Google Analytics integration, Facebook integration, and shopping cart integrations with PayPal, Authorize.Net, Stripe and Google Checkout. Ecwid also features free themes, product images and a drag-and-drop editor for creating pages. Ecwid’s main focus is to provide a spution for “going to market” quickly, as well as allowing a great amount of contrp for experienced developers who need something more complex. Ecwid is also on a mission to build the best topset for selling online.
The integration took place over the course of two months in the beginning of 2016. ShipRocket was integrated within Ecwid by adding the ShipRocket shopping cart widget (v1. within the Ecwid storefront. It was powered by Ecwid’s API (Application Programming Interface. Once the integration was made, it was clear that there were a few changes that needed to be made in order to make it more user friendly and to make it fit in with the rest of the Ecwid platform. The shopping cart widget was changed to a “preview” type widget through Ecwid’s Theme Editor, which provided better customization options for the design. A second integration of integration was made so that when the customer added an item to the Cart, it would then redirect them to ShipRocket to select their shipping options and continue checking out on both platforms. This allowed for easier check out for the customer because they did not have to go back and forth between the two platforms. This change was made by placing a Javascript call from Ecwid to ShipRocket through Ecwid’s API (Application Programming Interface. This call displayed the individual products in a form on ShipRocket which would let the customer select their desired shipping options on ShipRocket’s platform while they were still on Ecwid’s website and then defaulted back to Ecwid’s storefront once they had completed the selections in ShipRocket. This integration was made through an API call in Shopify and then retrieved through Javascript calls on Ecwid’s website. While this integration worked well, it was decided that it would be easier if each platform would make their own shipping decisions and entirely separate themselves so that there would not be any confusion as to who makes what decision regarding shipping options. This was done because it made each platform more customizable for their specific needs and provided a more streamlined process for the user.
Integration of ShipRocket and Ecwid has yielded many benefits for both platforms, including:
