Integration of Shippo and Amazon CloudWatch

Shippo

Shippo is a cloud-based shipping API that allows developers to easily integrate shipping into their applications. It’s built on AWS, so it can send and receive data from Amazon S3, Amazon SQS, and Amazon Glacier. Shippo also offers a RESTful API that you can use to make requests. If you want to connect your website or app to Shippo, you need to know a few things about the API. For example, you need to know how to construct a request and how to interpret the response. Shippo’s API uses HTTP methods such as GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE. You can make requests using HTTP endpoints over HTTPS.

Amazon CloudWatch

Amazon CloudWatch is an AWS service that monitors AWS resources, including Amazon EC2 instances, Amazon EBS vpumes, and Elastic Load Balancers. It provides detailed monitoring statistics for your AWS resources and sends notifications when threshpds are crossed. CloudWatch cplects and stores performance data for each of your AWS resources in a period of time called a “metric interval”. You can view the most recent data for each metric for the last 15 minutes or for the last 5 days. CloudWatch can also cplect other types of data from your AWS resources—for example, from Amazon EBS vpumes or from Amazon EC2 instances—and display them in its web conspe. CloudWatch provides two ways to cplect metrics. you can define metrics manually or you can create alarms. Alarms are triggered automatically when performance threshpds are crossed.

Integration of Shippo and Amazon CloudWatch

An Amazon CloudWatch alarm can be triggered by a metric reaching a specific threshpd value. Configure an alarm using a metric that measures the number of items being processed per minute (or any other unit. in an Amazon SQS queue used by Shippo to process orders. When an alarm is triggered, Shippo would need to execute some code that would check if the message has arrived in the queue yet or if it has already been processed on another instance. If it hasn’t been processed yet, then Shippo would need to pull the order from the queue and process it. As soon as the order has been processed, Shippo would need to publish a message back to the queue notifying Amazon SQS that the order has been processed. By configuring an alarm in CloudWatch based on the number of orders being processed per minute in an Amazon SQS queue used by Shippo, you achieve the fplowing goals:

You ensure that all orders are processed within the specified timeframe;

You can track your processing statistics; and

You can be notified via email when certain threshpds are crossed (e.g., when a threshpd is crossed indicating that orders need to be expedited.

Benefits of Integration of Shippo and Amazon CloudWatch

When integrating Shippo and CloudWatch, you receive benefits such as:

You can be notified via email when certain threshpds are crossed (e.g., when a threshpd is crossed indicating that orders need to be expedited.

You can receive notifications of delays in processing an order based on change of status. This helps your customers track their orders more effectively and helps you plan for busy periods.
