Downtime Alert is a service that keeps an eye out for any kind of outage in your software or website including your email. It sends you a notification when any kind of downtime is reported in your app or website so that you can quickly fix it. This helps you respve issues faster than before which ultimately improves your customer experience. The service monitors more than 40 providers including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Rackspace, Microsoft Azure, Heroku, and others. It also supports multiple channels such as SMS, mobile push notifications, email, phone calls and other integrations like Slack and HipChat.

Integration of shippit and Downtime Alert

Shippit offers a simple API that makes it easier to integrate with third-party software without requiring any programming expertise. With the help of an integration framework provided by Shippit, you can easily integrate with Downtime Alert to get notified when any site or app goes down. You get notified about the downtime via SMS or email since Downtime Alert supports both these channels. You can choose from a variety of options regarding which notifications to receive from Downtime Alert. You can choose to receive notifications for all the sites under your account or select specific sites. You can also choose from different alert types such as downtime alerts, contact us messages and server alerts. Downtime Alert uses a REST API for sending and receiving messages so it is easy to integrate even with no coding experience. There are only two steps invpved in integrating with Downtime Alert using shippit:

Step 1. Generate the API Key from Shippit. To generate API keys, you will need to log in to Shippit using your credentials and then go to settings section. Here you need to click on API Keys link which will bring up a new page with all the details related to API keys. In this page, you need to enter in your name and email id along with any description you want to give it and then click on Create API Key button. This will create an API key for Downtime Alert integration. You can either download the API key file or keep it for future reference.

Step 2. Get the API Key from Downtime Alert. Navigate to Settings section of your Downtime Alert account and then click on Integrations link from the left-hand menu. Here you will find a list of all the integrations that Downtime Alert supports including shippit integration. Click on the shippit integration link which will take you to a page where you need to provide the API key that was created earlier from shippit. You just need to copy the API key from here and paste it into the field provided in Step 3 of Shippits instructions. Once you have entered this key, click on Add Integration button at the bottom of the page and then you are good to go! Now whenever there is downtime in any of your apps, you will automatically be notified via SMS or e-mail through Downtime Alert.
