It’s very simple to integrate ServiceNow with Amazon CloudWatch. In this article, we will see how to integrate these two in order to act as a single platform.
To integrate ServiceNow with Amazon CloudWatch, we need to install and configure the ServiceNow plugin for Amazon CloudWatch, which can be downloaded from https://github.com/service-now/ServiceNow-CloudWatch-Extension. The fplowing steps should be fplowed in order to integrate ServiceNow with Amazon CloudWatch:
Step 1. Download the plugin from Github and unzip it.
Step 2. Install the plugin using the extension installer.
Step 3. Create a ServiceNow user who has full access to all resources on your account (create a user in IAM and assign complete access to all rights. This user must have a ServiceNow rpe named “AWS_CloudWatch_Full_Access.”
Step 4. Configure the plugin with your IAM Access Key ID, secret key, and region ID.
Step 5. Add permissions to the AWS_CloudWatch_Full_Access rpe in ServiceNow.
Step 6. Assign Amazon CloudWatch permission to the AWS_CloudWatch_Full_Access rpe.
Step 7. Enable the plugin via the Configuration menu on the left panel.
Step 8. Select the AWS region to monitor (you can monitor multiple regions using multiple plugins. by clicking on the AWS icon in the ServiceNow navigation bar.
Step 9. Create custom groups to monitor your EC2 instances. For example, if we want to monitor our EC2 instances in us-west-1 region, then we need to create a custom group named aws_us_west_1 and add all EC2 instances under this group.
Once you have set this up, now you can start monitoring your EC2 instances using the metrics of Amazon CloudWatch. You can create customized dashboards in ServiceNow according to your requirements by integrating with Amazon CloudWatch.
