Sentry is a monitoring system, created by a company called PagerDuty. It allows users to monitor servers and services for incidents and alerts.
SMS Alert is a feature of Sentry that allows users to send messages to employees via SMS. Users can send messages to alert them of an incident or to inform them of a status update.
Sentry and SMS Alert are integrated into a single spution. To begin using Sentry and SMS Alert, a user must sign up for a free account on the PagerDuty website. The free account includes three virtual servers and unlimited users. After signing up for a free account, a user can create an event. An event is an incident or problem with an application or service. The user can name the event, assign it to people, and set any necessary priorities. For example, if an application is down or unresponsive, the user can create an event named “Down Application” and designate who will receive messages about the event and what priority it should be given. If an application is functioning normally but there is a problem with the code, the user can create an event titled “Bug in Code” and designate who will receive messages about the event and what priority it should be given. After creating an event, the user can click on the email icon to create a message. When creating a new message, the user can enter information such as what group of people will receive the messages and what time the messages will be sent out. The messages are sent via SMS Alert; they can also be sent via email or other messaging systems such as Slack and HipChat.
