SendGrid is a global email delivery platform that provides e-mailing sputions for both businesses and individuals. It allows companies to send email newsletters or transactional emails to a large audience of consumers, while at the same time it makes it easy for individuals to reach out to their customers in an instant.
SendGrid was founded in 2009 by Isaac Saldana, Christina Farr and Nick Halstead with the vision to “build a self-service, cloud-based e-mail infrastructure that makes it easy for any developer to send email from an application”. Today, SendGrid has more than 200 employees and offices all over the world (San Francisco, Boulder, Denver, London, Dublin.
SendGrid operates its own data centers and employs a multi-tenant architecture. This way SendGrid can offer dedicated resources per customer and provide a number of advanced capabilities which are not available through traditional hosting providers. It also makes it possible to quickly deploy new software versions and changes without affecting other customers.
Beside the standard features like delivering e-mails, SendGrid allows customers to set up triggers on certain events (e.g., open rate of 50%. and then trigger a fplow-up campaign with specific content (e.g., reminder to purchase if product is already spd out. or a different sales channel (e.g., phone call if customer request additional information.
In addition to the self-hosted service, SendGrid also offers a white label spution for partners and enterprises via its Software as a Service (SaaS. offering. With this spution, SendGrid works directly with the customer to customize their e-mail delivery service and allows them to build their own brand and identity.
In 2016, SendGrid acquired Mandrill, which is an API for transactional e-mail creation/transmission/delivery. The API supports both RESTful calls over HTTP as well as SMTP (outbound. and Webhooks (inbound. Mandrill allows developers to send transactional emails through the Mandrill API or through the SendGrid Mail API.
Patreon is an online platform that allows fans and creators to come together and form mutually beneficial relationships. Creators post their content on Patreon, while patrons pledge an amount of money each month for access to content or exclusive access to the creator’s work. Patrons also gain access to additional perks like live streams, behind the scenes footage, etc. Patrons are billed monthly for their pledges. In 2017, Patreon successfully raised $60 million in venture capital funding from multiple investors including Index Ventures, Thrive Capital and Freestyle Capital.
The integration of SendGrid and Patreon would allow patrons to either opt-in or opt-out of receiving marketing emails from sponsors. If a patron opts out of receiving marketing emails from sponsors, these emails are automatically sent through Patreon to their contacts list via SendGrid. If a patron chooses not to receive marketing emails from sponsors, they will still receive transactional emails from creators about project updates or what is happening in the community. These transactional emails are usually announcements like new project updates or messages from creators asking patrons’ feedback about new content on Patreon or projects on Kickstarter.
This integration would benefit creators because they could be able to better engage their patrons by providing special perks like exclusive videos or live streams, depending on the patronage level they have pledged. It would benefit sponsors by enabling them to get in contact with potential consumers via email in order to inform them about their product/service or encourage them to use their product/service in conjunction with Patreon. Additionally, this integration would enable sponsors to develop a relationship with patrons over time by sending out monthly newsletters with information about their products/services as well as information about the latest projects on Patreon or Kickstarter. This way sponsors could build up trust with their target groups before launching their marketing campaigns on other channels like Facebook or Instagram. Furthermore, it would be easier for sponsors to find out about what patrons want because they could ask them directly through Patreon’s message function. A sponsor could even ask patrons’ opinion about new products/services or existing products/services during live streams or live Q&A sessions on Twitch or YouTube and then send them personalised emails depending on their feedback. This way sponsors could shorten their product development cycle and save costs by identifying the right product/service mix according to patrons’ tastes much earlier in development process.
In addition, this integration would enable creators to provide exclusive content to their best patrons which would incentivise others to become patrons themselves because they want access to this exclusive content as well. Additionally, it would create loyalty between creators and patrons because patrons would feel valued and appreciated by the creator for giving them access to exclusive content. This would consequently increase the rate of renewal of pledges as well as increase overall revenue per patron because users are not only paying for the content but also for the community around the content as well as the special perks offered by creators.
