Integrate Reddit with Spotify

Reddit is an American social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website. Registered users can submit content such as text posts or direct links. Other users then vote the submission “up” or “down” to organize the posts and determine their position on the site’s pages. Content entries are organized by areas of interest called “subreddits”.

Spotify is a music streaming service that provides digital rights management–protected content from record labels and media companies. Spotify is a freemium service; basic features are free with advertisements or limitations, while additional features, such as improved streaming quality and music downloads, are offered via paid subscriptions.[3]

Reddit and Spotify can be integrated in several ways. One of them is to simply add a subreddit for “Spotify Playlists”. This allows users to create playlists based on the subreddit rules, that other users can comment and vote on, it will also allow for people to share their playlists with other users, which could result in more interactions between redditors and spotify users alike. Another way is to make it so that whenever a user interacts with a song on Spotify, they also interact with a song on reddit. This would require some sort of integration between the sites, and may not be possible. The third way to integrate these two websites together is to create a website that contains all the songs that have been submitted to the subreddit, and allows users to listen to the music easily without having to download it onto their computer or phone. This way it would be easier for users who just want to listen to music without needing it on their personal devices. (See Appendix A)

The benefits of integrating these two websites together include:

• More users for both websites
• More interaction between redditors and spotify users alike
• More exposure for both websites
• Better search engine rankings for both websites
• Applying what we’ve learned in class about strategy (Breadth and Depth. might help us come up with new ways to integrate these two websites together. It may be possible to create a directory of subreddits where each subreddit has its own spotify playlist. This way it would make it easier to find new music through spotify playlists posted on Reddit. If you subscribe to the spotify subreddit you will gain access to all of the spotify playlists posted in that subreddit. Once you subscribe to the spotify subreddit you will start gaining karma points for every spotify playlist you comment on or vote up, every time you get 10 karma points you will gain access to another tier of spotify playlists. In conclusion, Reddit and Spotify can be very useful tops when used in conjunction with one another, by integrating both sites together into one cohesive unit, there could be many benefits which would result in higher ratings of both websites. (See Appendix C)
