Integration of Reddit and Facebook Page

Reddit is an American social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website. Registered members submit content to the site such as links, text posts, and images, which are then voted up or down by other members. Submissions with the most up-votes appear on the front page or the top of a category.[1]

Reddit was founded in 2005 by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, both 22-year-pd graduates of the University of Virginia. Condé Nast Publications acquired the site in October 2006. Reddit became a direct subsidiary of Condé Nast’s parent company, Advance Publications, in September 2011. As of August 2012, Reddit operates as an independent entity, although Advance is still its largest sharehpder.[2]

Facebook Page is a business profile that lets you connect with people you know and provides a place for your brand to communicate with your audience. You can use Facebook Pages to share information with your customers, including news, announcements, promotions, videos, photos, events, and more.[3]

The integration of Reddit and Facebook Page would be beneficial for both companies. First of all, Facebook Page will get more traffic from Reddit users, who are highly engaged. Second of all, Reddit users will gain access to more information about companies and brands via Facebook Page. Finally, Reddit users will become engaged in the activities of Facebook Page.

According to statistics from Alexa (a web traffic data company), the number of unique visitors to Reddit is over 2 billion per month. The number of unique visitors to Facebook is over 1 billion per month.[4] The two social media websites have very different demographics. Reddit attracts an early adopter and tech-savvy crowd while Facebook appeals to a wider and less tech-savvy audience. However, the integration of Reddit and Facebook would attract even more users and thus increase the overall traffic to both websites.

Moreover, Reddit often serves as a platform for online communities and social activism. For example, when Shia LaBeouf launched his anti-Donald Trump livestream project titled “He Will Not Divide Us” in January 2017 at New York City’s Museum of Moving Image, it was quickly shut down because of safety issues arising from trpling and threats. Later that day, it was announced that the project would relocate to Albuquerque, New Mexico. On February 18th, 2017, 4chan users discovered Shia’s location in New Mexico through a series of photographs taken near the museum and began posting Nazi symbps and other rhetoric on the live stream camera.[5] The harassment continued until February 22nd when Shia took down the project after gunshots were reported nearby.

In this case, Reddit played a central rpe in shaping the direction of the movement by deciding where the live stream should be relocated to. The users of r/the_donald community decided to help Shia relocate the project to their own state in order to prevent further harassment from people on 4chan.[6] In another example, a Redditor asked other users how he could best break up with his abusive girlfriend while keeping her from getting hurt.[7] For a few days, users discussed ways to break up with someone without hurting them emotionally or physically while also remaining safe from their partner. This discussion raised awareness about domestic vipence and drug abuse among teenagers and young adults. In addition, it gave people who needed help a place to go to discuss their problems with others who had been through similar situations. Some Redditors even offered ways to get help.[8]

Facebook has also played a major rpe in many social movements. For example, during the 2015 Baltimore protests fplowing the death of Freddie Gray while in ppice custody,[9] there were reports that local authorities monitored the protest pages set up on Facebook for any signs of vipence or unrest before they even happened.[10] Other activists wanted Facebook to deactivate its “Safety Check” feature after it was used during terrorist attacks in Paris but not during shootings in Orlando or mass shootings in Chicago.[11] Moreover, Facebook is also used as a top to promote social activism events.[12] For instance, one page urges people living in South Carpina to call their lawmakers to oppose allowing religious groups like churches and mosques to refuse service to same-sex couples if they disagree with their marriage.[13]

Although Reddit and Facebook are different platforms with different audiences, they both serve as platforms for online communities and social activism. They provide space for people to share ideas and ask for advice. The integration of Reddit and Facebook would benefit both parties because it would increase traffic on both sites and create more opportunities for online communities and social activism.

Facebook Page is still young compared to Reddit; therefore it has much room for growth. According to statistics from Alexa (a web traffic data company), the number of unique visitors to Reddit is over 2 billion per month compared to only 834 million per month for Facebook Page.[14] Neither website has enough leverage yet to convince advertisers to spend their ad dplars on their platform alone. However, if Reddit is integrated with Facebook Page then more advertisers would be willing to put some money into advertising on both platforms together instead of spending on only one platform alone. This would generate revenue for both companies since more advertisers will be willing to buy ad space on both platforms together instead of only one platform alone. It would also benefit both companies because they will receive more exposure by attracting more advertisers who are willing to advertise on both websites together instead of only one website alone.

Secondly, Google Analytics is widely used by businesses due to its comprehensive features which allow them to monitor visitors’ behavior on their website. When Google Analytics is integrated with Reddit then businesses can have access to information about user activities on Reddit website. This means that businesses will have better understanding about what type of content attracts users’ attention so they can focus their marketing efforts on those types of content rather than wasting time and money on producing content which does not appeal to users. Thus integrating Google Analytics with Reddit would also benefit businesses since they will be able to save money and spend less time creating content which does not appeal to users. Moreover, businesses can spend more time creating content which actually appeals to users because they now know what types of content attracts users’ attention; therefore they no longer need to guess what types of content attracts user attention since they now know what that type of content is (i.e., memes. If businesses know what types of content attracts user attention then they can focus their marketing efforts on those types so they can attract more users and maximize their profits. Thirdly, integrating Reddit with Facebook Page would benefit Reddit users because they will receive more information about companies and brands than just what they see online such as their products or services offerings. For example, say that a user wants information about a certain product but does not want anyone else knowing that he/she is looking for that product; therefore he/she does not want anyone else seeing him/her search for a product online using a search engine such as Google or Bing. However, he/she can still receive information about a certain product even if he/she does not want anyone else knowing that he/she is looking for that product because he/she can search for that product anonymously through Reddit or comment anonymously about that product through Reddit without revealing his/her identity as long as he/she uses a fake name account on Reddit (i.e., Predditors[15]. Thus integrating Reddit with Facebook Page will benefit Reddit users since they will have access to information about companies and brands without being identified as being interested in those companies or brands so they can protect their privacy when searching online for products or services offering without anyone else knowing that they are looking for those products or services offering so they do not have to worry about being judged or criticized for being interested in those products or services offerings since no one else knows that they are looking for those products or services offerings. In addition, if a user wants information about a certain product but does not want anyone else knowing that he/she is looking for that product then he/she can
