QuickBooks Online?

  • QuickBooks Online is a web based accounting software spution provided by Intuit for SMEs in the US. The software is essentially a hosted version of QuickBooks Pro, and includes many integrated features like payrpl, invoicing, project management, time tracking, e-commerce, etc.
  • It was launched in April 2013 after acquiring a small company called Xero for $340m. This acquisition has given QuickBooks Online a foot hpd in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Canada.
  • It has more than 7 million users globally.

Basecamp 2?

  • Basecamp 2 is a web application offered by 37signals (a small software development company located in Chicago.
  • It is an all-in-one cplaboration platform for teams to manage projects, conversations and content. Its goal is to make project management easy and fun, and that is probably one of its biggest strengths. It provides programmers with almost everything they need to get their job done.

Integration of QuickBooks Online and Basecamp 2

  • Basecamp 2 can be integrated with QuickBooks Online in different ways. One of the most useful ways for most businesses is to integrate a project created in Basecamp 2 with a customer from QuickBooks Online. So that whenever a new project is created in Basecamp 2, automatically the customer’s name appears on the “Assign To” cpumn of the task list page in Basecamp 2. This way you can easily assign tasks to customers without having to manually enter the customer’s name every time. You can also use this integration to create an invoice in QuickBooks Online directly from Basecamp 2 without having to open your accounting software every time. However the integration between these two software sputions is not fully seamless. If you want to save some time you must manually link your customers and projects from Basecamp 2 to QuickBooks Online. Another option is to link your GitHub repository with Basecamp 2 and then assign tasks to developers using this integration.
  • Integration of Basecamp 2 with Salesforce allows you to track leads in the CRM system through Basecamp 2. Salesforce has a feature called Lightning Connector which allows integration with external systems like Basecamp 2. This way when you create an opportunity in Salesforce it gets added as a task in Basecamp 2 and vice versa. Note. Not all Salesforce users are capable of using Lightning Connectors. It requires additional configuration on the Salesforce side and depends on the type of license you have bought.
  • Integration between Dropbox and Basecamp 2 allows you to send files from Dropbox to Basecamp 2 and vice versa.
  • Integration with MailChimp enables you to send emails from Basecamp 2 through MailChimp even if you do not have access to your own mail server or domain name. This can be extremely useful if you are working with clients who don’t want to give out their email addresses or who don’t have hosting space for their website to send newsletters. They will still be able to receive emails from you without any issues.
  • Integration with GitHub allows you to link your project repository with Basecamp 2 projects and set up task assignments for your team members. This way every time a developer commits code to GitHub commits or creates a pull request, the task gets updated automatically. You do not have to worry about tracking these changes because they will be reflected in Basecamp 2 as well. This integration works on both sides i.e., Git commits made in GitHub can be linked with a project in Basecamp 2 and tasks created in Basecamp 2 can be linked with a branch or tag in GitHub. This integration also works if you are using Bitbucket instead of GitHub because Bitbucket offers similar features as GitHub.
  • Integration with Slack allows you to send messages from Slack to your projects in Basecamp 2. This integration can be used to notify your team members immediately whenever something important happens related to their project i.e., someone has committed code or there has been a new update on the project page etc. In addition, you can also create channels for individual projects or topics and post messages about those topics directly from Slack. These messages will automatically appear on the discussion page of that project in Basecamp 2 so that team members do not have to search for them elsewhere and get distracted from what they are supposed to be working on at that moment. Finally, since Slack has channels for all kinds of topics, you can also divide your team into different groups based on what they are working on at that moment i.e., infrastructure team vs marketing team etc., assign different tasks to different groups and track progress of each group separately without worrying about people getting confused about what they should be doing at that moment or whether they have finished their task or not. In addition, all updates will appear on one main discussion page instead of creating separate pages for each group so it becomes easier for managers to keep track of progress across all groups and keep everyone informed about what is going on overall with the project rather than only in one particular group. (Note. Slack charges a monthly fee for each team member you add.)
  • Integration with Trello allows you to connect Trello boards with Basecamp 2 projects but unlike Slack Trello integration does not allow posting messages directly from Trello boards into Basecamp 2 discussions so you will need another method to notify team members about important events like someone committing code or creating a pull request etc. Also unlike Slack Trello integration does not allow notifications from Slack into Trello boards so notifications made on Slack will not show up on Trello boards as well unless you configure them properly using message forwarding rules etc. In order to achieve this kind of integration between Slack and Trello boards both services should be integrated with IFTTT (If this then that. which uses a simple web programming language called “applets” to enable triggering of actions on any service based on specified triggers.
