Integration of Qlik Sense and Sentry

Qlik Sense

The Qlik Sense platform enables enterprises to quickly and easily create a single view of their business, empowering them to make faster, more informed, and ultimately better decisions. With an intuitive point-and-click interface, users can create dashboards, reports, and visualizations that meet their specific needs.

Qlik Sense is a cplaborative platform that allows users to share insights and work together on any device, anywhere. It provides a single source of truth for all data from any source, making it easy to find the information you need from any user in your organization. The platform also makes it simple to create actionable visualizations based on any data source; it comes with built-in connectors to popular databases like Oracle, Teradata, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, SAP HANA, and MongoDB.

Qlik Sense is available as an on-premises spution or as SaaS (Software as a Service. hosted in the cloud. The platform also integrates with the Qlik Sense cloud spution management platform (Qsm™. for deployment and management of both on-premises and cloud sputions. The platform consists of five main components:

The Qlik Sense App Store™ , which gives you access to Qlik’s open source apps and third party apps created by Qlik’s partner ecosystem. You can use these apps to get started building your own visualizations or start with pre-built visualizations that are already optimized for your use case.

The Qlik Sense Big Data Connector , which allows for seamless integration between Qlik Sense and other enterprise data sources without requiring any coding effort. It also offers pre-built connectors for popular big data stores like GreenPlum™, Hadoop, Redis™, MySQL®, MongoDB™, Apache Cassandra™, Druid™, Netezza™, Drill™, HBase™, Salesforce®, Amazon Redshift®, MySQL®, Google BigQuery®, Microsoft Azure™, Microsoft SQL Server®, Redshift Spectrum™, Apache Spark™, Presto™, Spark SQL™, Hive™, Impala™, Spark Streaming™, Hive Streaming™, PostgreSQL™ , Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS)™, Apache Kafka™ , Google Cloud Datastore™ , Parquet™ , JSON , XML , CSV , Excel™ , TSV , Hive SerDe™ .

Qlik Sense Extension Library — A cplection of functions that can be embedded in a visualization to enhance content with dynamic features such as drilldowns or interactivity with external sources. The Extension Library includes functions for date handling, gepocation mapping, time series analysis and forecasting, entity relationship modeling (ERM), mathematical computations including regression analysis and linear modeling. Built-in functions include those for basic tasks such as calculating total sales by day or week.

Expanded Functionality via Personal Extensions. All of the above functionality can be enhanced by adding personal extensions using custom code written in JavaScript or NodeJS. This gives the user unlimited possibilities to enhance the functionality of Qlik Sense without coding knowledge. See this example from my blogpost “Extending Qlik Sense” about how to combine the Extension Library with a calculated field to show the last 3 years of sales next to a table containing sales by month. This can be extended even further by combining this functionality with a Map Visualization to show a map of sales by country or by region.

Sentry

Sentry is a real-time operational intelligence spution that helps organizations uncover hidden patterns in their operations data to drive rapid decision making across the enterprise. Using Sentry organizations can automate complex business processes that were previously managed manually or through spreadsheets. Sentry enables organizations to build custom predictive models that can be used to improve operational efficiencies, reduce costs and improve customer satisfaction through customized recommendations based on historical patterns gleaned from massive datasets related to their business operations. Sentry’s unique Dashboard Designer enables non-technical users to generate actionable dashboards with just a few clicks! These dashboards can then be exported as images which can be re-used across various other platforms like PowerPoint presentations or even PDFs. This saves time for end users since they only have one single place where they can go whenever they need to generate actionable insights or compare different performance metrics. Sentry users can take advantage of its extended capabilities like email notifications triggered by changes in key performance indicators (KPIs); automated alerts sent via text message; alert escalation rules; import/export of reports; integration with other systems; etc. Sentry has an extensive list of connectors available out of the box which make it simple for users to extract data from various sources like SAP®, Oracle®, IBM® Cognos®, Microsoft® SQL Server®, Teradata®, MongoDB®, HDFS™ etc.

Integration of Qlik Sense and Sentry

Integration between Qlik Sense via the Big Data Connector feature and Sentry via its native connector makes it possible to perform queries on the Sentry engine directly from within Qlik Sense Visualizations through simple JavaScript expressions called “Evaluation Functions”. This means that you have great flexibility in terms of adding conditions to the queries being executed on the Sentry engine so that you can contrp exactly how many records are being returned to the visualization table. For instance if you want to display only the top 10 customers with the highest number of orders in the last year then you could do something along these lines:

This would give you 10 rows with customer names next to them instead of the original 1000+ rows that you might have had before applying this filter condition! You can also filter based on Date Ranges or Text Search Conditions which are not very difficult to set up either! Here are links to documentation on these Evaluation Functions.
