Integration of Qlik Sense and CloudTalk

Qlik Sense?

Qlik Sense is a cloud-based BI top that provides Analytics to businesses. It was developed by the world’s leading vendor of self-service business intelligence software. It is based on QlikView, which is an enterprise-level data visualization top. QlikView provides a fast and easy way to create reports, dashboards, visualizations, and ETL processes. The company was created in 2001 by Lars Bjørn Anderson, Michael Mpler-Pedersen, Peter Krogh and others. Its headquarters are located in Aarhus, Denmark.

Qlik Sense is used for business analytics and the development of custom applications. It is targeted at small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs. who want to make better use of their data and improve their decision making. It is used by more than 25,000 organizations in more than 100 countries and in seven out of ten Fortune 1000 companies.

The company offers a free trial version of Qlik Sense, and they also offer a paid version called Qlik Sense Enterprise. The paid version includes many additional features such as access to the Qlik community, advanced security features, and the ability to integrate the application with other enterprise applications such as SAP or Salesforce.com. The differences between the free and paid versions are outlined in this table:

Free Paid Access to the Qlik Community ✓ ✓ Advanced Security Features ✓ ✓ Integration with enterprise applications such as SAP and Salesforce ✓ ✓ Dashboards and reports ✓ ✓ Complex calculations and scripts ✓ ✓ Integration with Web services and databases ✓ ✓ Scheduled data refresh and delivery of data to the user interface ✓ Custom branded reports and dashboards ✓ Offline mode ✓ Data modeling ✓ Advanced user management ✓ Custom themes and styles ✓ Training and support from Qlik ✓

CloudTalk?

CloudTalk is a new platform from Qlik that lets users build custom apps for self-service discovery and visualization on top of data from Hadoop, Azure, Azure Blob Storage, SQL Server, Oracle, SAP HANA, Salesforce.com, IBM DB2, SAP BW/4HANA, Teradata Aster Analytics Platform via JDBC, Google Big Query, Amazon Redshift, among others. The new platform offers a variety of services that can be consumed directly or via existing tops such as Tableau, Qlik Sense, Power BI, Excel, etc. In addition to the web-based UI for building apps with drag-and-drop components, it offers a REST API for automating custom apps.

In the past year there have been some important changes in the CloudTalk product landscape. In August 2015 CloudTalk was integrated into Qlik Sense Enterprise. This made it possible for users to create custom apps using the same drag-and-drop functionality they use to create dashboards. Later in December 2015 Qlik released a new version of CloudTalk that includes a new language called “Qlik Script”. This language is similar to JavaScript or Python and can be used to build custom apps without HTML or CSS. With the release of the new version of CloudTalk it became possible to create custom apps using either the “drag-and-drop” UI or the Qlik Script language. This means that now users can choose between two methods to develop custom apps.

Integration of Qlik Sense and CloudTalk

Integration between Qlik Sense Enterprise and CloudTalk enables users to develop custom apps using the same tops they use for building dashboards. One good example is if you want to create an app that displays information about sales representatives in your company; you can create a dashboard showing information about each rep like their annual sales amount, number of orders they placed last year, etc. Then you can build a CloudTalk app that uses this information to analyze their performance compared with other reps in the same region (e.g., compare their sales performance with their peers), or you can create an app that shows how their performance changed over time (e.g., compare their sales performance this year with their performance last year. You can use the same information that you used to create your dashboard but then use it to answer different questions (i.e., instead of creating one dashboard showing different performance indicators for each rep you could create several “interactive charts” showing different metrics. For example, you could have an interactive chart for annual sales vpume per rep where you can click on any rep name on the x axis to see their sales vpume data on the y axis.

Another example is if you have an app that shows sales orders by date range e.g., orders placed in September 2016 are shown on one line, orders placed in October 2016 are shown on another line, etc., then you could create a CloudTalk app that shows sales vpume by order date range e.g., sales vpume in September 2016 is shown on one line, sales vpume in October 2016 is shown on another line, etc..
