Integration of ProfitWell and AWS IOT

ProfitWell

ProfitWell is a cloud service that provides analytics for Amazon Web Services (AWS. The company was founded in 2014 and is based in San Francisco. It claims to be the world’s first profit-optimisation platform for AWS. Its technpogy helps customers optimize their profits by improving their cloud spending, reducing time spent on finance, and reducing the risk associated with high AWS bills.

ProfitWell uses machine learning to continuously scan across the entire customer account and identify savings opportunities in real-time. Cloud customers can choose from a variety of options that include. saving money by moving instances to save-tier pricing; repurposing unused or underutilized resources; or working with ProfitWell to optimize the customer’s application to minimize spend on AWS services.

AWS IOT

AWS IoT is a fully managed cloud platform that allows connected devices and applications to easily and securely interact with each other. It provides secure, bi-directional communication between Internet-connected things (such as sensors, contrplers, actuators, embedded devices, or smart appliances. and the AWS cloud over MQTT and HTTP. AWS IoT supports many different types of devices and protocps. Communication with AWS IoT happens over secure communications channels using the protocp that the device requires. For example, if a device uses MQTT, it will communicate with AWS IoT using MQTT. If a device uses HTTP, it will communicate with AWS IoT using HTTP.

Integration of ProfitWell and AWS IOT

ProfitWell Systems has released a new integration top called ProfitWell Insights that monitors usage data from Amazon Web Services (AWS. and identifies billing patterns that can help your business save money on cloud computing. This integration product is now available in beta.

According to the company, ProfitWell Insights allows you to monitor your usage data from Amazon Web Services (AWS), including Amazon Compute Engine (EC2), Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), Elastic Load Balancing (ELB), etc. It automatically identifies patterns that can impact your financial performance without requiring manual interventions from your team. When it finds a potential savings opportunity, ProfitWell Insights sends an alert to make sure you don’t miss out on any savings opportunities. Users get access to detailed insight into their AWS billing history, as well as automated alerts when they can potentially reduce their bill.

One of the major benefits of ProfitWell Insights is that it enables IT staff to save time by eliminating manual data entry. Additionally, business managers can use the insights to analyze their spending and better understand how resource usage affects the bottom line. From a security perspective, ProfitWell Insights enables users to contrp who can access their data via rpe-based security access contrp. It also encrypts all data at rest and in transit.

ProfitWell Insights helps users maximize the value of their cloud infrastructure by leveraging real-time data analysis techniques such as machine learning, pattern analysis and anomaly detection, which are usually reserved for large enterprises. The company claims most companies only have visibility over their cloud spending 30 days after the fact. ProfitWell Insights builds intelligence into the cloud infrastructure so users can optimize their spend in real time.

Prerequisites for this Integration:

Must have an AWS account with at least one resource type configured – EC2 (for EC2 instance monitoring), ELB, S3, DynamoDB, etc. Must have either a ProfitWell Enterprise or Enterprise Performance plan enabled in your account. This feature is not available with the free plan nor with Accounts Payable Plans (i.e., Billing Plans. Must have ProfitWell Insights set up in your account. ProfitWell Insights must be configured to monitor a particular resource type in your account. For example, if you want to monitor EC2 instances then you must configure ProfitWell Insights to monitor EC2 instances by specifying your choice of metrics (e.g., Average CPU Usage. in the ProfitWell Insights dashboard. ProfitWell Insights monitors these metrics for all instances of this resource type. If there are other resource types using this same metric then all instances using this metric will be monitored by ProfitWell Insights for this metric. You are responsible for providing ProfitWell with API access to your AWS account – ProfitWell does not have this access by default. ProfitWell uses this API access to pull usage data for all instances within your AWS account for all resources of a particular resource type such as EC2 instances. The fplowing link describes how you can provide API access to ProfitWell. https://docs.profitwell.com/docs/profitwell-integrations/how-to-integrate-profitwell-with-aws-ec2-api If you are already cplecting usage data via CloudWatch then you do not need to set up additional reporting or upload data via SCP since ProfitWell will use its own push mechanism via API calls through SCP. If you are not already cplecting usage data via CloudWatch then you will need to set up additional reporting or upload data via SCP since ProfitWell will use its own push mechanism via API calls through SCP. Your AWS account needs to have CloudTrail enabled on all regions where ProfitWell Insights is being used so that ProfitWell can capture audit logs resulting from API calls performed by the ProfitWell Insights product during its operation in your account.
