Amazon DynamoDB is a NoSQL database that provides fast and predictable performance with seamless scalability. It is designed for the AWS Cloud, but can be run in any environment that supports the Amazon DynamoDB APIs. Using Amazon DynamoDB, you can get started quickly and scale up or down as needed to accommodate your data storage needs.
How can PDF4me be integrated with Amazon DynamoDB? Thumbnails of the files in PDF4me are smaller images than the original PDF that users download from our servers to their computer. If a user wants to read the text in a thumbnail of a file, he must download the file to his computer and view it on Adobe Reader or other software. This decreases productivity. In order to make PDFs more accessible, we thought of integrating PDF4me and Amazon DynamoDB. We can do this by creating a thumbnail of a PDF file, storing it in Amazon DynamoDB, and then enabling users to view thumbnails in PDF4me. This would allow users to access documents through PDF4me without needing to store them on their computers. The image below shows how PDF4me is integrated with Amazon DynamoDB.
PDF4me users can view thumbnails of documents stored in Amazon DynamoDB by selecting “View Image” under each document in PDF4me.
The PDF file from which the thumbnail is created is uploaded to an S3 bucket. The thumbnail of the document is generated by PDF4me and stored in Amazon DynamoDB. A thumbnail key that is unique across all documents is assigned to the thumbnail. An HTML link is created that links directly to the thumbnail of a document stored in Amazon DynamoDB. The link is appended to the document title in PDF4me. For example, if a document title is “Sales Report”, an HTML link (“View Image”. is appended to it. The link directs users to view the thumbnail of the document in PDF4me by accessing http://pdf4me/document-id?docThumb=http://pdf4me/thumbnail-key . When a user clicks on “View Image”, the link to the thumbnail is opened in a new browser window by default. If a user does not want to view a thumbnail in a new browser window, he can specify it when clicking on “View Image”. In this case, the thumbnail opens in the same window as the document title in PDF4me. The newly created thumbnail key and the URL of the thumbnail are then sent to S3 Buckets where they are stored temporarily while being processed by Amazon S3. Once processed, they are moved to Amazon S3 permanent storage.
Viewing thumbnails of documents stored in Amazon DynamoDB through PDF4me provides many benefits including:
Once users get used to viewing thumbnails of documents through PDF4me, they will avoid downloading large files from our servers and using third party software to view them on their computers. This will save time and increase productivity for all users. Users will now be able to access documents through PDF4me without needing to download them first on their computers. This will save time for all users since they won’t have to wait for files to download before viewing them. Users will be able to view documents without needing to use Adobe Reader or other software installed on their computers. This will save time for all users since they won’t have to install additional software on their computers. If users have multiple browsers installed on their computers and prefer not to open links in one browser in another browser, they can specify a browser when clicking on “View Image”, thus viewing thumbnails in the same window as the document title in PDF4me. Viewing thumbnails of documents through PDF4me helps us achieve our vision of making information accessible to everyone. The ability to view documents without needing third party software like Adobe Reader makes it easier for blind users to access documents stored in Amazon DynamoDB through PDF4me. Since blind users cannot install Adobe Reader on their computers, they can easily access documents through PDF4me without needing Adobe Reader or other software installed on their computers.
