Paypal is one of the largest global payments processor. The company was founded by Elon Musk and Peter Thiel in 1998. As of 2017, Paypal has more than 202 million active accounts, with $7.9 billion USD in revenue. PayPal provides its users a safe and secure environment to send and receive money using the Internet.

PostgreSQL is an open source object-relational database management system (ORDBMS. developed by the PostgreSQL Global Development Group (PGDG. It is a powerful database management system that supports a large part of the SQL standard. PostgreSQL is available for various operating systems including Linux, Unix, Windows, Mac OS X and OpenVMS.

In this section, we will explain how Paypal and PostgreSQL can be integrated together.

Integration of Paypal and PostgreSQL

PayPal’s customers can use their credit card or bank account to make payments on the internet. For merchants, Paypal is a great way to accept payment for their goods and services online. Most of the payment processors charge 2% + 0.30 USD per transaction or 4% + 0.30 USD per transaction for non-profit organizations. On the other hand, Paypal charges 1.9% + 0.30 USD per transaction in most of the countries which is lower than most of the payment processors. In addition, Paypal also charges less fees as compared to other payment processors when a merchant is paying out money via wire transfer. Instead of charging 2% + 0.30 USD per transaction, Paypal charges 1% + 0.30 USD per transaction for paying out money via wire transfer.

For our research purpose, we have used an API provided by Paypal i.e., PayPal Sandbox API. We have used several API and libraries to create our application. To create transactions using Paypal API, we have used Python Requests library and to parse the API response we have used BeautifulSoup library.

To generate test data for integration of Paypal and PostgreSQL, we have used a script provided by Paypal i.e., Paypal Sandbox Generate Test Data Scripts. Using this script, we have generated test data for each of the 3 transaction types i.e., Send Money (SM), Request Money (RM. and Account Balance (AB. This script generates test data for all country codes supported by Paypal globally based on PayPal Sandbox API.
