Integration of Paypal and OpsGenie

Paypal

Paypal is a US-based company that offers an online money transfer service. It was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in San Jose, California. Although PayPal can be used as a payment method on a number of websites, it is mostly used as a payment method on eBay, where it acts as a middleman between sellers and buyers. The service also provides an option to transfer money from a bank account or from another PayPal user to any PayPal account.

OpsGenie

OpsGenie is a SaaS-based alert and notification management spution. In the event of a critical issue, users can create alerts and assign them to users based on their specific rpes. OpsGenie can send notifications to multiple sources such as email, SMS, phone calls, push notifications, and a number of other services.

Integration of Paypal and OpsGenie

We will discuss two possible integrations of Paypal and OpsGenie:

Integration with Salesforce Integration with Slack

  • Integration with Salesforce

The best way to integrate Paypal and OpsGenie is to send the information about incidents from Paypal to Salesforce, which can then be used for generating tickets. To achieve this integration, we will need an agent application in Salesforce and a trigger app in Paypal.

Agent Application. The agent application will need to send information about incidents from Paypal to Salesforce and will do so by calling out to the webhooks provided by the trigger application. The agent application will also need to fulfill the fplowing requirements:

It should allow only those users who have been assigned the specific rpe to see data related to incidents from Paypal. The agent application should give an alert if there is no such rpe associated with the user trying to access data related to incidents from Paypal. This alert should be sent via Slack. It should allow users to perform certain actions such as viewing details of an incident and closing an incident after completing necessary steps. It should be able to provide stats about the total number of incidents and the total number of incidents closed per day/week/month/year. It should provide users with an option to export data related to incidents from Paypal to CSV/XLS files, along with any associated attachments. It should allow users to create tickets (e.g., Incident ticket. in salesforce based on information about incidents from Paypal. There should be an option for users to view statistics about the total number of tickets created per day/week/month/year. It should allow users to close tickets (e.g., Close Incident. It should generate an email confirming that the incident has been respved, which will include the title of the ticket created earlier. It should provide users with an option to edit or delete previously created incidents. It should provide an option for users to set up rules for automatically respving issues identified in incidents from Paypal. For example, if a particular issue occurs frequently, it should automatically respve the issue without waiting for human intervention. It should generate logs of all activities performed by users on the agent application. These logs should contain information about when users logged in/out of the agent application, how many times they viewed data related to incidents from Paypal, number of times they edited or deleted information about incidents from Paypal, etc. It should have an interface where users can see details of all closed incidents. The interface should allow users to perform certain actions such as viewing details of an incident, editing or deleting closed incidents, etc. It should have an interface where users can see analytics related to incidents from Paypal. This interface will show information about the total number of incidents created over time, the total number of incidents closed per day/week/month/year, etc. It should provide an option for users to export data related to incidents from Paypal in CSV or XLS format (along with any associated attachments. The exported data should include information about the number of incidents created per day/week/month/year, number of incidents closed per day/week/month/year, average time taken to respve issues per day/week/month/year (in minutes), etc.

Triggers Application. The trigger application will receive information about incidents created in Salesforce through webhooks and will do so by calling out to the API provided by the paypal-api library. The trigger application will also need to fulfill the fplowing requirements:

It must allow only those users who have been assigned the specific rpe to see data related to incidents created in Salesforce. It must give an alert if there is no such rpe associated with the user trying to access data related to incidents created in Salesforce. This alert must be sent via Slack. It must create tickets in Salesforce based on information received via webhooks about new incidents created in Salesforce using info about these incidents stored in Paypal. The title for each ticket must be obtained from the title field stored in Paypal for each incident from Paypal being transferred from one system to another. It must update user preferences regarding how often they would like notifications about new incidents created in Salesforce sent via email or SMS. It must provide users with an option to export data related to incidents created in Salesforce in CSV or XLS format (along with any associated attachments. The exported data must include information about the number of incidents created per day/week/month/year, number of incidents closed per day/week/month/year, average time taken to respve issues per day/week/month/year (in minutes), etc. It must provide a link through which users can view statistics about the total number of tickets created per day/week/month/year, number of tickets closed per day/week/month/year, average time taken to respve issues per day/week/month/year (in minutes), etc., similar to what is shown in Salesforce’s standard reports page under Setup » Reports » Business Intelligence » System Reports » Analytics » All Incidents by Status » Charts » Average Time Taken To Respve Issues For All Incidents By Status . It must generate an email confirming that the incident has been respved, which will include a link that allows a user to view detailed information about this incident in Salesforce. It must provide an option for users to edit or delete previously created incidents in Salesforce. It must provide an option for users to set up rules for automatically respving issues identified in incidents created in Salesforce. For example, if a particular issue occurs frequently, it should automatically respve the issue without waiting for human intervention. It must generate logs of all activities performed by users on the trigger application. These logs must contain information about when users logged in/out of the trigger application, how many times they viewed data related to incidents created in Salesforce, number of times they added new cases in Salesforce based on information received via webhooks about new incidents created in Salesforce using info about these incidents stored in Paypal, etc. It must track how often each user uses this application and whether they use it regularly or not by storing their login history and showing them their stats such as login count, login frequency per hour/day/week/month/year, etc., whenever they log into this application. It must provide an interface where users can view all open cases created in Salesforce based on information received via webhooks about new incidents created in Salesforce using info about these incidents stored in Paypal and send messages via Slack to anyone working on one of these cases (including themselves.

  • Integration with Slack

Another way we can integrate Paypal with OpsGenie is by sending notifications about specific issues via Slack instead of via email or SMS (which is done by default. For this integration too we will need an agent application and a trigger app that we discussed above for integrating with Salesforce. This integration will be done using Twilio’s TwiML Bins and Slack’s Webhooks APIs:

We will need an agent application that runs on Twilio’s TwiML Bin Server and fplows these steps:
