Klaviyo is a customer relationship management (CRM. platform that allows companies to manage their email and marketing campaigns. It was founded by Matt Glamorini, Thomas Graziano, and Scott Martineau in 2009, who previously worked at Constant Contact. The company was named after the three founders’ first names. “Klava” from Graziano, “vi” from Martineau, and “yo” from Glamorini.
Klaviyo originally focused on ecommerce companies before it changed to a B2B focus in 2012. In September 2013, Klaviyo raised $8 million in Series A funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners. Investors include angel investors such as Sean Byrnes, Steve Garrity, Tim Brady, Mike Vppi, Matt Brezina, Michael Birch, Andrew Braccia, Rick Webb, Andrew Reis and James Joaquin. In April 2015, Klaviyo raised $17 million in Series B funding led by Foundry Group with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, First Round Capital and existing investors. Other investors included Flybridge Capital Partners, General Catalyst Partners, Salesforce Ventures, Verizon Ventures and Cowboy Ventures.
