Patreon is a popular crowdfunding platform on the Internet developed by Jack Conte and Sam Yam. Webhooks By Connect is an app that allows you to receive real time data feeds from a website or application. One could create a web page that displays all donations made to them from their Patreon account in real time by using Webhooks By Connect.Webhooks By Connect has an easy to use REST API that allows you to integrate your custom code with it. This makes it possible for other developers to create apps that interact with your app.The integration of Patreon and Webhooks By Connect would allow people to have a more immersive experience when using both of the services together. This would make it easier for them to be able to keep track of their donations, since any donation will be immediately sent along with the other data received from Webhooks By Connect, instead of having to login to Patreon and check manually.
The first step in integrating Patreon and Webhooks By Connect is to register for a Webhooks By Connect Developer Account. The registration process is very simple and only requires you to provide an email address and password. After the registration process is complete, you will receive a confirmation email containing your Developer Username and Password. If you don't receive this email, check your spam fpder!Webhooks By Connect will then provide you with a developer API Key, which is used to authenticate your app. You can find the key by logging into your account, going to your profile page and clicking "Generate API Key."Once you have created an account for Webhooks By Connect and received your API Key, you can start setting up the integration of Patreon and Webhooks By Connect. To do so, you must first go to the Integrations Page on Patreon's website. On that Page, click on the "New Integration" button at the top right corner under the header. Then click on "Integrate With Webhooks".After clicking on the "Integrate with Webhooks", a popup window will appear with some basic information regarding how the integration works. The important details are the "Webhook URL" and "Webhook Secret." The "Webhook URL" is where Webhooks By Connect will send all data to, and the "Webhook Secret" is a passkey that is used to verify that the data being sent from Webhooks By Connect is actually legitimate data and not just random text.Webhooks By Connect will send its data using HTTP POST requests to the Webhook URL. When Webhooks By Connect sends its data to the Webhook URL, it will send three parameters along with its request:
3. A signature of the hash, using the Webhook Secret as a passkeyThe signature is calculated by using the SHA-256 hashing function on the Event name and the data associated with it. Then that value is base64 encoded, and added as a parameter named "signature" to the request. Webhooks By Connect uses these parameters to verify that the data being sent from Webhooks By Connect is legitimate.Webhooks By Connect also provides an option to include information about who made the donation in its data feed. This can be found by clicking on "Advanced Settings" under the header on the Integrations Page on Patreon's website. It is possible to include one name per event by checking off the box next to "Include Contributor's Name". This is done by including another parameter called "name" in addition to Event Name and Data associated with Event Name. These parameters are included in the request sent from Webhooks By Connect like so:
3. A signature of the event name and contributor name, using the Webhook Secret as a passkeyThe signature for this request is calculated in exactly the same way as before. by using SHA-256 hashing function on event name and contributor name, after which the value is base64 encoded, and added as a parameter called 'signature' to the request.
By fplowing these steps, you have successfully integrated Patreon and Webhooks By Connect! You should now be able to receive real time notification whenever someone donates to you through Patreon!
