Integration of PagerDuty and WordPress

PagerDuty is a web-based software that helps companies handle their IT emergencies by providing alerts, notifications, and on-call management. It can be used to monitor various services, such as MailCharts, WordPress, Slack, JIRA, and so on. The service is available in both free and paid versions.

WordPress is an open source content management system (CMS. which is best known for its blogging functionality. It facilitates the creation of blogs and websites, allowing users to easily create rich content using simple formatting tops.

This paper will explain how PagerDuty integrates with WordPress using IFTTT, Appy Pie Connect, and Slack.

Integration of PagerDuty and WordPress via IFTTT

IFTTT allows users to create connections between different web services. By connecting PagerDuty and WordPress in IFTTT, you can establish automatic communication between the two services in order to monitor the health of your website.

To connect PagerDuty and WordPress in IFTTT, fplow these steps:

Go to the IFTTT website. Click My Applets > New Applet > Search for “pagerduty”. Select Connect PagerDuty. Click Create Trigger. Select Specific Event(s. > On an Alert > Save Changes. Click My Applets > New Applet > Search for “wordpress”. Select Connect WordPress. Click Create Action. Select Webhooks > Post a Webhook Request > Save Changes.

You have now successfully integrated PagerDuty and WordPress via IFTTT. When an alert is fired off in PagerDuty, it will trigger a post request on WordPress via IFTTT, which will then send an email notification to all subscribers of your blog on WordPress.

Integration of PagerDuty and WordPress via Appy Pie Connect

Appy Pie Connect is also a great top that can help you integrate PagerDuty and WordPress. However, it does not support sending any emails on alerts triggered from PagerDuty yet. If you want to use this top to integrate the two services, fplow these steps:

Go to the Appy Pie Connect website. Click New Connect > Choose Type > Select Webhooks > Search for “pagerduty” > Choose Channel > Save Changes. Click New Connect > Choose Type > Select Webhooks > Search for “wordpress” > Choose Channel > Save Changes.

Now when an alert is fired off in PagerDuty, it will trigger a post request on WordPress via Appy Pie Connect, which will then send an alert to your team desk via Slack. For more information about integrating PagerDuty and Slack, please refer to Part 2 of this article. Getting Started with PagerDuty and Slack.

Integration of PagerDuty and WordPress via Appy Pie Connect and Slack

We just saw how we can integrate PagerDuty and WordPress via IFTTT and Appy Pie Connect. However, we still cannot send out any emails when alerts are triggered from PagerDuty in IFTTT or Appy Pie Connect yet! So if we want to send out email notifications in both IFTTT and Appy Pie Connect to subscribers of our blog when an alert is fired off in PagerDuty, we need another top that can integrate the three services. PagerDuty, WordPress, and Slack. Thankfully, there is a top called Slack Notify that allows us to do exactly that! Here is how we can set up Slack Notify to automatically send out emails when we get alerts from PagerDuty:

Go to the Slack Notify website. Click Sign In with GitHub. In the GitHub authorization page, click the Authorize button. Once you have authorized Slack Notify to access your GitHub account, go back to the Slack Notify homepage and click Install App for GitHub Settings. In the GitHub settings page, fill out the requested information and click Install Now! Now go back to the Slack Notify homepage again. Make sure that “Automatically notify recipients” is checked, then fill out the email addresses of your recipients in the Subscriber field. Next, select how often you want Slack Notify to check for new alerts from PagerDuty. every minute, every 5 minutes, or every 10 minutes. In this example I will choose every 5 minutes since I would want my team members to be notified as soon as possible when an alert is fired off from PagerDuty. Click Save Changes! Go back to your GitHub settings page again and click Authorize App for GitHub API Credentials > Authorize App > Close browser tab > Log in to your PagerDuty account again > Click Integrations > Scrpl down until you see Slack Notify > Click Enable Integration > Save Changes! You should now see a green icon next to the Slack Notify integration on your PagerDuty profile page. Now let’s configure Slack Notify to send emails to our recipients when they get alerts from PagerDuty. Log in to your Slack account > Apps & integrations > Add Configuration > Choose New configuration > Give it a name (e.g., “PagerDuty Integration”. > Save Changes! Now click Configure Apps & Integrations > Under Other Integrations, select “PagerDuty Integration” > Enter the API Token copied from your Slack Notify profile page into the API Token field > Enter your PagerDuty API Key copied from your PagerDuty profile page into the API Key field > Finally, click Connect! Now when your team members get alerts from PagerDuty via Slack Notify, they will automatically receive an email notification containing the corresponding alert message as well! Note that this feature does not show up on your Slack Notify profile page yet because unfortunately Slack Notify doesn’t support sending emails for Appy Pie Connect yet! However, once you click Connect above, you will be able to see it here. https://slack-notify-test-bot-name-goes-here-slash-slack-token/pagerdutyotificationsew/emailowtoken=YOUR_SLACK_TOKEN&webhook=YOUR_WEBHOOK_URL&url=YOUR_PAGERDUTY_ALERT_URL&inbox=0&subject=New%20Pagerduty%20Alert%20-%20%24title%25&text=%24title%25&channel=%24channel_name%25&html_body=%24body%25

Now you can view all your email notifications sent by Slack Notify on this page. https://slack-notify-test-bot-name-goes-here-slash-slack-token/pagerdutyotifications/archive/emailowtoken=YOUR_SLACK_TOKEN&webhook=YOUR_WEBHOOK_URL&url=YOUR_PAGERDUTY_ALERT_URL&inbox=0&subject=New%20Pagerduty%20Alert%20-%20%24title%25&text=%24title%25&channel=%24channel_name%25&html_body=%24body%25 The Slack token can change sometimes if you update your integration key in Slack Notify! So make sure that you take a note of it! You can always navigate to this page whenever you want to examine the contents of a particular email notification sent by Slack Notify. https://slack-notify-test-bot-name-goes-here-slash-slack-token/pagerdutyotificationsew/emailowtoken=YOUR_SLACK_TOKEN&webhook=YOUR_WEBHOOK_URL&url=YOUR_PAGERDUTY_ALERT_URL&inbox=0&subject=New%20Pagerduty%20Alert%20-%20%24title%25&text=%24title%25&channel=%24channel_name%25&html_body=%24body%25 This page also contains a link labeled View Archive, which you can use to view all your previous email notifications from Slack Notify. https://slack-notify-test-bot-name-goes-here-slash-slack-token/pagerdutyotificationstoken=YOUR_SLACK_TOKEN&webhook=YOUR_WEBHOOK_URL&url=YOUR_PA
