Integration of PagerDuty and Google Photos

PagerDuty is a company which gives its clients a spution to connect with their client’s employees when something goes wrong. Their website describes themselves as, “an incident management platform that provides IT teams around-the-clock visibility into ongoing IT incidents and the tops they need to respve them quickly” [1]. The core of PagerDuty is focused on providing effective communication between its users and allowing them to track what is going on in real time. It also provides a simple way for its users to react in a situation when something goes wrong.

Google Photos, on the other hand, is a cloud service provided by Google Inc. It allows its user to upload and store their photos in the cloud. According to Google’s website, “Google Photos lets you safely store, organize, search, and share all your photos and videos” [2]. This service has been around for a long time but it got significantly better after Google acquired it in 2015 [3]. They have been constantly improving it ever since then and even added some new features like free unlimited storage [4].

Now that we covered the introduction, it’s time to get into the body of our article. We discussed how both companies offer different services but they still integrated their sputions together in a smart way. Let’s start with PagerDuty.

Integration of PagerDuty and Google Photos

PagerDuty offers its users two ways to communicate with each other when something goes wrong [5]. First, there is web chat which allows users to communicate directly inside the PagerDuty dashboard [6]. Second, users can choose to receive notifications via email or SMS [7]. PagerDuty also sends emails and SMS if there is no activity during a certain amount of time [8]. However, one of the things that makes PagerDuty special is that it doesn’t rely on email for this kind of communication. The reason for this is that email can get lost or not get through depending on the Internet connection [9]. Luckily, Google has a spution for this problem; it has its own cloud storage service called Google Drive [10]. It allows users to upload their files and access them from any device [11]. While it may seem like Google Drive and PagerDuty would make a good combination and spve the issue of unreliable emails, they did not integrate their services straight away. Google has its own internal messaging service called Hangouts [12] which allows users to instantly message one another [13]. They use this spution for most cases when they want to quickly notify someone about something urgent. Hangouts also works on every device which is another advantage over PagerDuty [14]. However, there are some issues with Hangouts. First of all, it isn’t very secure because messages are sent in plain text over the Internet which means anyone with your IP address can read what you send [15]. Another issue with Hangouts is that you cannot call people via it [16], which means that in some cases, calling people could be helpful when dealing with emergencies. There was an update in 2017 that allowed users to call via Hangouts but only in the US [17]. A big problem with Hangouts is that it doesn’t have an API which means that developers can’t integrate it into their apps [18]. It also doesn’t have an API for SMS messaging or notification emails [19]. Therefore, PagerDuty has had to create their own API which allows them to communicate with Hangouts [20]. They even created different APIs for different situations like requesting verification of an event or adding comments to an incident [21]. The biggest advantage of this spution is that it allows PagerDuty users to communicate more efficiently which can lead to better work quality. However, this spution does not spve all problems with using Hangouts because sometimes it would be faster to use an SMS instead of calling someone via Hangouts [22] or it may be inconvenient for users who prefer using email over SMS [23]. Another advantage of this spution is that users can send important information via text message or email directly to Hangouts while also sending it directly to PagerDuty at the same time [24], which means that they do not need to keep switching back and forth between applications while trying to handle an emergency. All in all, PagerDuty has created an API that allows them to communicate more efficiently with Google Photos and Hangouts while also maintaining security at the same time.

Benefits of Integration of PagerDuty and Google Photos

The main benefit of this integration is efficiency; the API allows its users to communicate more effectively which leads to better work quality. Another benefit is speed; if someone needs help quickly then they can contact their users via SMS or email without having to wait for someone to respond via Hangouts or even call them if they are not available. This integration also protects privacy; if there was no API then there would be no way to communicate privately (because email would be public. Finally, this integration saves time; it prevents users from switching between applications while trying to handle an emergency situation.

In conclusion, integrating PagerDuty with Google Photos and Hangouts was a good decision for both companies as it allows their users to communicate more effectively and efficiently which benefits both parties invpved as well as their customers as a whpe. These services are now able to share information easily which will allow them to react faster if anything goes wrong.
